Oakley updates its iconic Radar with a larger lens and a wider field of vision

The Oakley Radar have been one of the most recognizable glasses in the peloton for almost two decades, and now the American brand has decided to renew this model with the new Radar EV Heater. The main novelty is a more enveloping lens that extends towards the sides, with which Oakley aims to increase the field of vision and provide an unobstructed view while cycling.

The new Oakley Radar EV Heater revive an icon and increase their field of vision

Oakley has presented the Radar EV Heater, a new evolution within a family that has been closely linked to cycling for years. For this version, the brand has also drawn on part of its own legacy, recovering an aesthetic with some inspiration from the 90s and baseball, a discipline for which the original Radar were also conceived.

The most evident difference compared to other Radar EV is in the shape of the lens. The EV Heater design is taller and elongated, also increasing its extension towards the sides. Oakley claims that this larger surface allows for an unobstructed view and a wider field of vision, something especially interesting when adopting an aggressive position on the bike.

The result retains the visual identity of the Radar, but takes the concept of enveloping lens further, which has become prevalent in cycling glasses in recent years. Oakley classifies this new model as size XL.

The Radar EV Heater use Prizm lenses, Oakley's technology developed to enhance contrast and detail perception. Depending on the market, they will be available in up to nine different combinations of lens and frame, including two options with polarized lenses.

O-Matter and Unobtainium to maintain the fit

For the frame, Oakley continues to use O-Matter, its injection-molded thermoplastic material. According to the brand, it offers greater strength and flexibility than traditional acetate and is designed to retain its shape over time.

At the contact points, the usual Unobtainium components appear. This material is used in both the nose pads and the temple tips and has the particularity of increasing its grip with moisture. Thus, the more perspiration, the greater the grip should be to prevent the glasses from shifting during exercise.

Additionally, each unit includes two interchangeable nose pads, allowing for a better fit adjustment to different nose shapes.

With the Radar EV Heater, it updates one of its popular models following the current trend of larger and more coverage lenses. 

The new Oakley Radar EV Heater start at 222 euros, although the available frame and lens combinations may vary depending on the market.
