New Orbea Onna, the most important MTB in its catalogue?

Orbea has just added a new mountain bike model to its catalogue, it's called the Onna and it's been designed completely from scratch with the difficult task of being the first or main MTB for many mountain bike enthusiasts. This base model starts at €629, incorporates all the new XC trends, includes much of the technology seen on top models and offers Orbea's lifetime warranty.

New Orbea Onna: a perfect MTB

For those who are wondering where the name Onna comes from, the brand told us that in Basque "Ona" means "good", but in this case, the symbolism of the name goes much further, as Onna was the name of one of the first revolvers that the manufacturer developed around 1840. But focusing on the new Orbea Onna, we have to say that it comes to replace the current Orbea MX, the base model in the brand's mountain bike catalogue. It is undoubtedly one of the most important as it will be the first mountain bike for many enthusiasts and has the difficult task of being attractive, comfortable and safe in equal parts. It seems to have succeeded by far in this task.

It is unusual for a brand to devote so much attention to the presentation of a "basic" model in its catalogue. However, Orbea has put the same amount of attention as in any of its other presentations. It is clear that the Orbea Onna has been an important project for the brand.

Geometry and specifications

While performance and modern lines have been kept in mind, the geometry of the Orbea Onna is oriented towards control and comfort. In addition, all models in the range are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes to make it a reliable MTB in all conditions. The frame is made of hydroformed aluminium.

Unlike other mountain bikes in this segment, the head tube is tapered rather than straight, which provides more stiffness at the front and translates into more control and precision when handling the bike. This type of head tube also allows the mounting of higher-end forks, which tend to be lighter and have more configuration options.

To fit any rider, the Orbea Onna is available in five sizes ranging from XS to XL. The wheel size will be 27.5" for size XS, a choice of 27.5" or 29" for size S, and all other sizes will fit 29" wheels. There is also a Junior version with five other sizes.

Among the quality details of this model we can highlight its excellent internal cable system, also unusual in this segment, the compatibility with dropper seatposts or the anchorages distributed throughout the frame for mounting a luggage rack.  

The Orbea Onna includes a free bike tune and one year Wikiloc subscription

As a complement to the purchase of an Orbea Onna, the brand has come up with an attractive initiative in which everyone who activates the lifetime warranty on their new Onna will get a free bike tune and a free year's subscription to Wikiloc. With this subscription, new riders are encouraged to get out and explore new routes and places.

The subscription promotion is available worldwide, while the first bike tune is subject to this series of countries: Spain, France, Germany, UK, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Denmark and Sweden.

Prices, models and availability of the Orbea Onna

The Onna range consists of five models starting at €629 for the Orbea Onna 50 up to €1,099 for the Orbea Onna 10. In addition, there are five other models for the Junior version which are in the same price range.

The brand says that the presentation of this model has been delayed by a little over a year to ensure that it would be available from launch. So you can now reserve the new Onna through the Rider Connect program.
