New Orbea Oiz 2027? We spotted a prototype in Nové Mesto, and it points to a radical change in the brand's XC full suspension
The XCO World Cup in Nové Město has not officially started yet, but the paddock has already provided one of the most interesting images of the season. Simon Andreassen has been seen training on what appears, without much doubt, to be a new generation of the Orbea Oiz. A completely black prototype, identified with the Orbea OOlab logos, the innovation and development division of the Basque brand, which hints at very important changes in both design and performance.

If the first thing that worries you upon seeing it is thinking it could be a 32” bike, you can rest assured, there is no doubt that it has 29-inch wheels. Its major change seems to be the new frame design, especially the main triangle and the position of the shock absorber, which give the bike a very different aesthetic from the current Oiz.

A completely new Oiz
Although there is still no official information and everything indicates that this is a prototype in the development phase of the new Oiz, there are several details that make it clear that we are not looking at a simple aesthetic evolution of the current Oiz. The front and rear triangles change noticeably, and so does the position of the shock absorber, two elements that are usually directly linked to the suspension kinematics.

The shock absorber is now much more integrated into the frame. The top tube features a more pronounced sloping and falls back to almost visually align with the seat stays. The result is a silhouette very different from the current Oiz and quite more aggressive visually.
Additionally, the down tube appears bulkier than in the current generation. This increase in section could respond to a search for greater structural rigidity as well as a different redistribution of loads within the frame. It could also hide internal changes related to cable routing or even new storage or integration solutions, although there is currently no confirmation.
In the absence of more detailed images and technical data, everything points to the fact that the real leap of this future Oiz 2027 will be in its capability. The bike maintains the characteristic monopivot scheme of the Oiz and other modern XCO bikes, but the complete redesign of the swingarm suggests a deeply revised kinematics.
Specialized has already done it with the new Specialized Epic 9, and everything indicates that Orbea wants to follow a similar path with this future Oiz; it is undeniable that they look aesthetically similar.
If one had to anticipate a possible direction for the project, it feels like Orbea would be looking for a more stable and aggressive bike for descending, while maintaining a very lightweight construction focused on pure XCO competition.
The first images make it clear that the brand is working on a deep renewal of one of the most important and highly valued bikes in its catalog.
