New Garmin fēnix 9 from €999: larger screen, better maps, 57 days of battery life, and ready to go out without a phone
Garmin has just updated one of its most complete sports watches on the market with the arrival of the new fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro. The new generation maintains its multi-sport and outdoor orientation but makes a significant leap in display, navigation, and battery life, which is perfect for cycling, in addition to introducing new Stamina metrics. In the case of the Pro models, the big news is a titanium case construction and the possibility of having LTE connectivity and inReach satellite without the need to carry a phone.
The new Garmin fēnix 9 improves display, navigation, Stamina, and battery life
Garmin has officially presented its new fēnix 9 family, consisting of the fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro, both available in sizes of 43, 47, and 51 mm. A range particularly interesting for cycling, trail running, mountain activities, and long-duration activities due to the combination of battery life, mapping, and training tools that have characterized this family for years.
Although the usual philosophy of the fēnix is maintained externally, Garmin has renewed a good part of the hardware. The fēnix 9 incorporates a display that is twice as bright as the previous generation, scratch-resistant sapphire glass, inductive buttons, and certification for immersion up to 40 meters.
The internal capacity has also increased significantly. The watch now has 64 GB of storage, double that of the fēnix 8 according to Garmin, enough to install more maps and store up to about 7,000 songs.

Maps up to 30% faster
For a cyclist using the watch for navigation, perhaps one of the most relevant improvements is in the mapping system.
Garmin claims that the fēnix 9 incorporates 50% more RAM than the fēnix 8 and an updated mapping system capable of making navigation through the maps up to 30% faster.
A new perspective view has also been introduced, designed to simultaneously show more information about the nearby terrain and what we will find further ahead on the route. On paper, it should especially facilitate reading the route when using the watch following tracks in the mountains or during long rides.
New Stamina metrics to better manage effort
Garmin has also revised its Stamina metric, one of its most interesting performance metrics for endurance sports.
The function now incorporates zones and a Stamina curve, allowing users to observe how the athlete's endurance evolves based on their physical condition and training history.
During an activity, these metrics are intended to help better manage effort, something especially useful in long events, cycling tours, stage races, or outings where maintaining a sustainable intensity is more important than reaching maximum power for a few minutes.
Another common novelty in both watches is Garmin Epic. This function allows grouping different activities recorded over several days, weeks, or even months and compiling them into a single story in Garmin Connect.
For example, a multi-day bike crossing could appear grouped as a single adventure, incorporating activity statistics, health and performance data, and photographs, to later share it from Garmin Connect.
The sports novelties are complemented by specific functions for other disciplines, such as new metrics for indoor rowing — including VO2 Max and power curve when using a compatible power measurement machine — or new options for rucking activities.
The Garmin fēnix 9 Pro features a titanium case
The main hardware differences appear when upgrading to the fēnix 9 Pro. For the first time in the family, Garmin uses a titanium case, manufactured through a nanomolding process that combines metal and polymer. The goal is to increase durability while keeping both the weight and thickness of the watch down.

The display also takes another leap. The AMOLED models of the fēnix 9 Pro reach up to 3,000 nits of brightness, a particularly relevant figure when the watch is used under direct sunlight.
The Pro version of 51 mm also features a 1.5-inch AMOLED display, the largest used so far by Garmin in a fēnix. It represents approximately 15% more surface area compared to the fēnix 8 without increasing the external dimensions of the case.
Garmin continues to offer variants with solar charging within the Pro family for those who prioritize battery life over the AMOLED display.
The integrated LED flashlight is also maintained, which now adds a green light mode designed to better preserve night vision.
LTE and inReach: ride without depending on your phone
Another of the major innovations of the fēnix 9 Pro is in connectivity. Certain versions incorporate LTE and satellite communication via inReach, allowing users to send messages, make voice communications, or issue an SOS from the watch itself without relying on coverage or carrying a smartphone.
This function can be particularly interesting for MTB routes, bikepacking, or activities carried out in remote areas.
With an active compatible subscription, Garmin also adds several tools:
- LiveTrack via Garmin Messenger, to automatically notify contacts when an activity begins and allow them to follow it.
- Garmin Locate, which allows checking the user's position from Garmin Messenger using LTE.
- Weather forecast sent to the watch, available via both LTE and satellite.
- Messages and SOS via inReach, connected with Garmin Response, Garmin's 24/7 emergency coordination center.
For the first time, Garmin offers the possibility of having inReach connectivity in the three sizes of the fēnix 9 Pro: 43, 47, and 51 mm.
These functions require an active subscription, and their availability also depends on the country and corresponding coverage.
Up to 57 days of battery life
Battery life continues to be one of the major selling points of the fēnix. The Garmin fēnix 9 can reach up to 29 days in smartwatch mode in its largest battery life size.
In the fēnix 9 Pro, the largest AMOLED model reaches up to 31 days, while certain solar charging versions can extend that figure up to 57 days, under the solar exposure conditions used by Garmin for its measurements.
These figures correspond to smartwatch mode, so intensive use of GPS, maps, always-on display, or LTE and satellite communications will significantly alter the actual battery duration.

Garmin initially structures the range around the fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro, to which different configurations of display, solar charging, and inReach connectivity are added.
