Garmin buys TrainingPeaks and changes the future of cycling training
Garmin has just made one of the biggest moves in the sports training industry by announcing the acquisition of TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic, two of the most important platforms in the world for planning and tracking endurance and strength training. This operation represents a significant change for millions of athletes, coaches, and Garmin device users, as it brings together the market-leading hardware and one of the most widely used planning tools in cycling, triathlon, and running under one ecosystem.
Garmin makes the biggest move of the year in sports training: acquires TrainingPeaks
The announcement, made on July 22 by Garmin Ltd., confirms that the company is incorporating both platforms with the aim of offering more personalized training experiences and reinforcing its commitment to sports performance at all stages of physical preparation.
Until now, Garmin and TrainingPeaks maintained a close collaboration through the synchronization of training and data. With this purchase, the relationship becomes much deeper and opens the door to an integration that could transform the way users plan, execute, and analyze their training.
Brad Trenkle, Co-Chief Operating Officer of Garmin, explained the goal of the operation:

“TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic share Garmin's passion for helping the evolution of athletes and coaches around the world with top-notch training features, performance metrics, and useful information”.
According to the executive, the incorporation of both platforms will allow for greater access to personalized training and connect athletes more directly with professional coaches.
A strategic move to dominate training
TrainingPeaks has become the reference platform for coaches and endurance athletes in recent years. Professional cyclists, triathletes, runners, and thousands of enthusiasts use its system daily to plan loads, analyze power, monitor performance, and follow personalized programs.
On the other hand, TrainHeroic specializes in strength training planning, thus expanding Garmin's reach beyond endurance sports.

The acquisition allows Garmin to control a much larger part of the training process: from data capture through GPS watches, bike computers, and sensors, to planning and performance analysis within the platforms themselves.
What will change for users?
Garmin has not yet announced specific changes to the operation of TrainingPeaks or its subscription models, so both platforms will continue to operate normally for the time being. No new features resulting from the acquisition have been communicated either. garmin_trainingpeaks_espana.pdf
What the company does make clear is that it intends to offer a more integrated experience between devices, metrics, and training planning, something that could translate into new tools and greater synchronization within the Garmin ecosystem.
TrainingPeaks will continue with its team
From Peaksware Holdings, the parent company of TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic, its CEO Andy Stephens described the operation as the natural evolution of a collaboration that has lasted more than a decade.
“For more than a decade, we have worked together to help millions of athletes reach their highest level through structured data-driven training”.
The statement also confirms that the approximately 120 employees of both platforms will become part of Garmin, although the economic terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
For the cycling world, where TrainingPeaks is practically a standard tool among coaches and professional teams, the purchase represents one of the most relevant business moves in recent years and further consolidates Garmin's position as a dominant player in connected sports training.
