“My heart is broken”: Laura Stigger parts ways with Specialized after eight years and a World Championship title this season
One of the big surprises in the MTB transfer market for 2027 comes from Specialized Factory Racing. Laura Stigger has announced that she will not continue with the team after eight seasons, an unexpected farewell that comes precisely after one of the best years of her career. The Austrian has not hidden her disappointment over a decision that, in her own words, seems not to have been made by her.
Specialized parts ways with Laura Stigger despite her great results in 2026
Laura Stigger and Specialized are going their separate ways. The 26-year-old Austrian rider has confirmed through her social media that her time with the official team of the American brand has ended after eight years. She did so with a message that mixes gratitude for everything experienced with evident sadness over the outcome.
The news is striking given the season Stigger has had. The Austrian has been crowned world champion in Short Track (XCC) and won the XCO World Cup in Nove Mesto.
However, those results have not been enough to guarantee her continuity with Specialized Factory Racing.

In her farewell message posted on Instagram, Stigger acknowledges that she is still processing what has happened and explains that she needed time to come to terms with the situation.
"Hey everyone, it has been quiet on my channels lately. A lot of things to process, probably most of you already know. After a very successful season, a world jump title and eight beautiful years, the journey with Specialized comes to an end."
The Austrian also wanted to highlight what it has meant for her to be part of the structure for a significant part of her professional career.
"I have grown with them, learned a lot and made great friendships and I’m endlessly thankful for every single one and every single moment."
But the most significant part of her statement comes when she openly expresses how she feels about the decision.
"But honestly, I am still heartbroken and disappointed about the decision."
A statement that is unusual in farewells from professional teams and suggests that the breakup does not reflect the rider's own will. For now, Stigger has not explained the specific reasons for her departure.
Stigger has developed a significant part of her career alongside Specialized, a relationship that began when she was still one of the great promises of mountain biking and now ends as she is fully established among the best riders in the world.
Where will Laura Stigger race in 2027?
Stigger has not yet announced any agreement with another team, although her departure immediately makes her one of the most prominent names in the MTB transfer market for 2027.
Her situation coincides with a time of significant changes in the professional structures of the World Cup, where several teams are reorganizing their rosters and budgets.
In any case, the Austrian has made it clear that her intention is to continue competing and enjoying cycling, regardless of where her sporting career ends.
"I am trying to believe that things happen for a reason and I will still keep doing what I love the most, and that’s riding my bike with a lot of fun. Stay tuned and see you soon." she concludes in her farewell.
