Merida bets on the Classified system in the new Reacto ONE: extreme aerodynamics with 1x drivetrain
The evolution of road transmissions continues to open new paths, and one of the most striking movements now comes from Merida. As we already saw in its new Reacto V, the brand has decided to integrate Classified Powershift technology into a specific version of its range. The MERIDA Reacto ONE is the most exclusive setup and aims to combine maximum aerodynamic efficiency with a simplified transmission architecture.
Merida bets on the Classified system in the most aerodynamic Reacto ever created
The project's goal is clear: to take advantage of the benefits of a 1x system without giving up the range of gears that a 2x group normally offers. To achieve this, Merida resorts to the two-speed Powershift hub, an internal solution that eliminates the front derailleur and allows for a wide range of gears through a system integrated into the rear hub.

Within the Reacto family, the ONE version positions itself as the most radical configuration in aerodynamic terms. By eliminating the front derailleur and reducing exposed elements to the wind, the design optimizes airflow in key areas of the frame, especially around the seat tube and the down tube.

According to wind tunnel test data under the Tour Magazine standard, this setup reaches 196 watts at 45 km/h, making it the fastest Reacto developed so far.
This approach not only seeks to reduce air resistance but also reconsiders the complete architecture of the transmission system so that the whole works as an optimized unit.

The core of this configuration is the Powershift rear hub, which incorporates an internal two-speed mechanism capable of changing ratios even under very high loads. The system can perform shifts in approximately 150 milliseconds and withstand efforts of up to 1,500 watts, designed to maintain cadence and speed in maximum demand situations.
Thanks to this system, a single chainring transmission can offer a range equivalent to that of a traditional double chainring group, achieving a total range close to 583% with multiple intermediate ratios.
The shifting is managed electronically and is designed to integrate with modern electronic transmission systems, allowing for a user experience similar to that of conventional groups.
The Reacto ONE is presented as a complete competition bike:
- Approximate weight: 7.4 kg (size M)
- Transmission system: 1x configuration with Classified Powershift hub
- Wheels: DT Swiss ARC
- Tires: Continental Aero 111 / GP 5000S TR (29–30 mm)
- Power meter: Rotor
- Discs: 160 mm front and rear
The philosophy of the setup revolves around three key ideas: improving aerodynamic efficiency, reducing the mechanical complexity of the transmission system, and maintaining competitive performance in real race conditions.
For Classified, the integration into this Reacto represents another step in the adoption of its technology by major manufacturers. The Belgian brand has been promoting its two-speed hub-based transmission concept for years, and recently expanded its compatibility with electronic transmissions and new bike platforms.
The collaboration with Merida reflects the growing trend in the industry to explore alternative configurations to the traditional double chainring in high-performance road bikes.
