Megamo is entering the eBike market without a cassette or derailleur: this is the new Reborn with Avinox MG Concept motor
The revolution of electric bicycles seems to have found a new direction. Just a few hours after Avinox presented its innovative MG Concept motor with integrated gearbox at Eurobike 2026, we have already seen one of the first bicycles specifically developed around this technology. In this case, it is the new Megamo Reborn, a prototype eMTB with which the Catalan brand makes it clear that it wants to be at the forefront of this possible transformation of the market.

The new Megamo Reborn anticipates a generation of eBikes without a rear derailleur
Although Megamo has barely revealed technical details of the bicycle, we have already seen it displayed at Eurobike. We do not know its suspension travel, geometry, weight, or even the exact segment it will be aimed at when it goes into production. However, what is truly important is not the bicycle itself, but what it represents: one of the first real demonstrations of how an eMTB designed from scratch to operate without a cassette or rear derailleur could be.
The close relationship between Megamo and Avinox continues to grow
Megamo's presence in this project is no coincidence. The Catalan brand has become one of Avinox's closest partners since the arrival of its electric assistance systems to the market.

The success of the Megamo Reason equipped with Avinox motor has been one of the major drivers of the brand's technology expansion. From that platform came proposals as unusual as the Megamo Upon, a high-performance electric road bike, and the Megamo Along, one of the first gravel bikes developed around the Avinox system.

Now that collaboration enters a new phase with the Reborn, a prototype that demonstrates that both companies are already working together on the next step in the evolution of e-bikes.
More than a bike ready to hit the stores, the Reborn is a development form aimed at exploring all the possibilities of the new MG Concept system while Avinox continues to refine the technology.
The end of the cassette and the rear derailleur
The element that makes the Reborn such a special bike is found inside it. The new eMTB uses the Avinox MG Concept motor, a drive unit that integrates the transmission within the motor itself.
The idea represents a radical change from the design that has dominated electric bicycles for decades. Instead of using a conventional cassette and a rear derailleur, all management of the gear ratios is done within an integrated gearbox in the drive unit.
This allows the elimination of numerous external components, simplifying the transmission and reducing exposure to impacts, mud, or wear.

According to Avinox, the system is capable of making gear changes in less than 0.1 seconds and maintaining a continuous power delivery during the transition between gears. Additionally, it can shift both under heavy pedaling loads and with the bike completely stopped.
A new way to understand eMTB
Beyond the elimination of the derailleur, the MG Concept introduces a completely different approach to transmission.
The system allows for individual shifts or skipping several gears at once. It can also operate in manual mode or through different automatic settings, including a cadence-based system and an AI+ mode designed to adapt operation to faster and more demanding riding situations.
Another of the great advantages promised by Avinox is the practically total reduction of maintenance. The internal gearbox has been designed to operate throughout its useful life without periodic interventions, while the transmission can use a single-speed chain or even a belt.
For the user, this means fewer adjustments, fewer breakdowns, and a transmission much more protected from the elements.
For now, the Reborn remains a technological development exercise, and there is no date for a possible commercialization. But far from what we previously understood as "Concept" and that we often never saw on the market, it now seems that the concept is functional and work is being done on it so that we can see it in stores as soon as possible.
