Lenzerheide, Bike Kingdom, and a high-altitude circuit

It is one of the most iconic venues on the calendar, where the altitude (1,400 m) and a fast and technical course usually provide very close races. In addition, it comes just after the Crans-Montana World Championships, adding anticipation about how the big names will respond.

Located in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, Lenzerheide is a unique setting for MTB. The course combines dense forests and open mountain areas, with very fast sections, intense climbs, and technical descents.

Stable weather and sunny conditions are expected throughout the weekend. Clear skies are expected on Friday with temperatures up to 23°C and lows of 9°C. Saturday will maintain similar conditions, with highs of 22°C and lows of 9°C. On Sunday, the key day for the XCO races, the forecast indicates mostly sunny skies, with a maximum temperature of 19°C and a minimum of 8°C.

We will see if this forecast holds up as the days go by or if everything changes at the last minute.

Nino Schurter bids farewell to the XCO World Cup

The reigning world champion, Alan Hatherly (Giant), arrives with high morale and will be the main rival to beat. Also to be reckoned with is the Italian Simone Avondetto (Wilier-Vittoria), silver at the World Championships and in brilliant form.

The Specialized Factory Racing team remains a reference with Christopher Blevins and Martin Vidaurre, first and second in the overall standings, as well as Victor Koretzky who has just retained his rainbow jersey in Short Track and won the bronze medal in the XCO after a historic last lap. The young Luca Martin (Cannondale), already a podium finisher in several races this year, races very close to home and promises a spectacle.

But undoubtedly, the main protagonist of the weekend will be Nino Schurter. The Swiss has chosen this event to put an end to his participation in the World Cup. An emblematic location for him as it is close to his home and where he won a World Championship in 2018 and three World Cup races (2016, 2017, and 2023).

In the women's category, all eyes will be on Jenny Rissveds (Canyon CLLCTV), the reigning world champion and top favorite in Lenzerheide. The Swedish rider will have as main rivals the overall leader, Samara Maxwell (Decathlon Ford), and the Swiss Alessandra Keller (Thömus Maxon), who races at home and already knows what it takes to win here.

They are joined by cyclists like Loana Lecomte, Puck Pieterse, Nicole Koller, or Laura Stigger, who will look to take advantage of any opportunity to fight for the podium.

How is the General Classification going

In the women's general classification, New Zealander Samara Maxwell leads comfortably with 1,745 points. Behind her, Swedish Jenny Rissveds holds the second position with 1,310 points, while Swiss Alessandra Keller remains in third place with 1,233.

In the men's category, American Christopher Blevins leads with 1,506 points, followed by Chilean Martin Vidaurre with 1,145. Young Frenchman Luca Martin completes the provisional podium with 1,110 points.

Lenzerheide 2025 promises to be one of the highlights of the year in the MTB World Cup and comes just before heading to North America for the final two races.
