Lapierre takes action to survive after Accell Group's bankruptcy

The entry into Accell Group's payment suspension, announced this Thursday, has begun to have direct consequences on the brands that are part of the Dutch bicycle giant. One of the first to react has been Lapierre, which has publicly confirmed the start of a judicial reorganization procedure in France, a step aimed at ensuring the continuity of its operations while seeking a solution for its future.

Lapierre's response to Accell's collapse: judicial reorganization and a message of reassurance

The historic French brand, based in Dijon, wanted to send a message of reassurance just hours after the collapse of its parent company. In a statement shared on its social media, it explains that this decision comes "as a consequence of the cessation of activity of the parent company, Accell Group, to which we were linked", but insists that the company will continue to operate normally during this process.

Unlike other brands in the group, Lapierre maintains its management and structure in France, where it continues to be managed from Dijon under the responsibility of William Perrier. Precisely this operational autonomy could now become one of the key factors in trying to ensure its continuity.

The judicial reorganization requested before the French courts does not mean the closure of the company. On the contrary, this procedure allows maintaining activity under judicial supervision while various alternatives are explored, including the entry of an investor or the arrival of a new owner.

The big unknown is to what extent Lapierre will be able to regain real independence after years of being part of a large industrial group. As is the case in such structures, many functions had been centralized within Accell, from part of the production and logistics to shared resources or development processes.

"Our activity continues"

Aware of the uncertainty generated among customers and distributors, Lapierre wanted to convey a message of confidence. In the statement, it assures that, despite the current situation, "activity continues and the future awaits us with open arms".

The brand adds that all its teams remain mobilized to respond to the needs of customers and distributors with the same passion, the same rigor, and the same Made in France know-how that has characterized them for 80 years.dsc-8071-dsc-8071-1600-1786110238373-1

This same message is reinforced by the publication made on its social media, where Lapierre uses a metaphor closely related to cycling to describe the moment the company is going through:

"Great climbs reveal courage."

And adds:

"The challenges ahead will not change what drives us: our passion, our teams, and our commitment to cycling remain stronger than ever."

A market still under pressure

The situation of Lapierre reflects the consequences that continue to arise from the end of the sales boom experienced during the pandemic. Accell Group, also the owner of Haibike, Ghost, Winora, Raleigh, or Babboe, failed to overcome the combination of excess inventory, falling demand, and pressure on margins, despite several financial restructurings and the attempt to sell to the Singaporean fund DuTech Group.

A new phase begins for Lapierre. The priority is to ensure the continuity of the company independently while defining who will be its future owner. At the same time, uncertainty also reaches the commercial network and the thousands of workers linked to the former Accell group, at a particularly delicate moment for an industry that is still trying to regain stability.
