The profound transformation currently being experienced by the Netcompany INEOS Cycling Team adds a new chapter. John Allert has stepped down from his position as CEO of the British team after four years in the structure, a move that further strengthens Dave Brailsford's role at the helm of the project at a crucial moment for the team's future.

INEOS CEO leaves the team and Dave Brailsford gains more power amid "Mission 8"

The news, reported by Domestique, comes just a few weeks after the team officially presented its new identity as the Netcompany INEOS Cycling Team and is in the midst of seeking new sponsors to support the ambitious sports project internally known as "Mission 8," the plan designed to return the team to the top of the Tour de France.

According to published information, Allert formally submitted his resignation about a month ago, although he remained in the position to finalize negotiations that allowed the Danish technology company Netcompany to enter as the main co-sponsor for the next five years.

This agreement was one of the most significant business moves in recent cycling and marked the beginning of a new stage for the British formation. However, as the structure itself recently acknowledged, the arrival of Netcompany is not the final point of the transformation but just the first step.

Brailsford regains control

The team will not seek a replacement for the CEO position.

According to information from Domestique, daily management will be even more concentrated around Dave Brailsford, who officially returned to the cycling structure in 2025 after reducing his involvement in the sports project of Manchester United.

The Briton currently serves as the team's principal and also holds responsibilities within the INEOS group. His return had already been interpreted as a clear sign that the organization was preparing for a new phase after several years losing ground to teams like UAE Team Emirates-XRG and Visma Lease a Bike.

The management reorganization is completed with the presence of Geraint Thomas as competition director, a position he took on after retiring at the end of last season, and Scott Drawer as head of the performance area.

A key player in the arrival of Netcompany

Coming from the motor world and with a long career linked to the McLaren group, Allert entered cycling in 2019 before joining INEOS in 2022.

Initially, he arrived to strengthen the business and commercial side of the team, but he gained weight within the organization until he became CEO before the 2024 season.

His main legacy is precisely the agreement with Netcompany, a strategic operation that allowed the incorporation of new financial resources at a time when the costs of professional cycling continue to rise rapidly.

As journalist Daniel Friebe explained, Allert had already planned to leave the position at the end of 2025, although he ultimately delayed his departure to finalize negotiations with the new sponsor.

"Mission 8" moves forward

Allert's departure also coincides with a decisive stage for INEOS's sports project.

As the team recently explained, the structure is currently seeking a second main sponsor to further increase the budget and compete on equal terms with the financial giants of the WorldTour.

The situation is particularly symbolic because it was precisely Team Sky first and INEOS later who revolutionized modern cycling thanks to a financial capacity far superior to that of their rivals. Now, however, the market has changed, and the emergence of large international investors has raised the bar to unprecedented levels.

In this context, the so-called "Mission 8," the internal objective with which Brailsford aims to achieve the team's eighth victory in the Tour de France and return the British formation to the place it occupied for much of the last decade.

Allert's departure seems to confirm that the transformation continues to advance. Less executive structure, more prominence for Brailsford, and an active search for new economic partners to sustain a project that could even end up changing the historic name of INEOS within the professional peloton.
