“I don’t want to end up hating it”: Joey Pidcock retires from professional cycling at just 24
Joseph Pidcock has decided to end his professional career at the age of 24. Tom Pidcock's younger brother bids farewell to the peloton after two seasons with Pinarello Q36.5, where both have shared a team. After competing in his last race at the Tour of Guangxi, the Briton published a message explaining a decision related to his personal experience within cycling and his desire to regain a positive relationship with the sport.
Joseph Pidcock explains why he is leaving cycling at 24
Joseph Pidcock's retirement was known since October 19, when his brother Tom confirmed that the Tour of Guangxi had been his last professional competition. However, Joseph himself had preferred to remain silent until now, when he shared a reflection on his Instagram account.
"I have a lot to say, but now is not the time. I tried. I tried to be good at my sport and I tried to enjoy it.", wrote the Briton.

His words suggest that the decision had been on his mind for some time. Although it may seem contradictory, Pidcock asserts that it is precisely now that he has regained some satisfaction with cycling that he has decided to leave it.
"I have been happy these last few months. All the other years I wanted to quit cycling at the end of the season, but this year I don't hate cycling. And I don't want to hate it either."
The message ends with a thank you to the people who have accompanied him throughout his journey: "I want to thank everyone who thought I would become someone and who have always supported me. You know who you are."
A career marked by the Pidcock surname
Joseph Pidcock began his career with the development team Groupama-FDJ, where he competed during 2021 and 2022. He then spent two seasons with Trinity Racing, a British structure that has served as a springboard for numerous international talents.
His best result came in 2024, when he achieved a stage victory at the Ronde de l'Isard. That performance contributed to his leap to professionalism with Q36.5 in 2025, coinciding with the arrival of his brother Tom.

During his two seasons with the Swiss formation, he primarily worked as a domestique, without achieving a professional victory. Among his most notable results is the fourth position in the overall classification of the 2025 Tour of Kyushu.
His surname was also a topic he spoke about publicly. In an interview with WielerFlits in 2025, he acknowledged his confidence issues and the difficulties posed by being known as Tom Pidcock's brother.
"I wouldn't have accepted this position either if I didn't believe I could be professional," he explained then. He also admitted that he had gone through a phase thinking a lot about what it meant to carry the Pidcock surname, before focusing on finding his own path.
With this retirement, the Pidcock brothers stop sharing the peloton after two seasons on the same team. Joseph closes his professional chapter at 24 years old and, for now, has not announced what his next projects will be.
