What happened in the last race and how are the overall standings?
The XCO World Cup continues with the American tour, but this time to end the season. The spectacular race at Snowshoe ended with Sarrou on top of the podium after beating Schurter in the final sprint. A flat tyre marred the results of Pidcock and Schwarzbauer, while Guerrini and Fluckiger held strong for a good performance.
Schurter is first overall and, therefore, the best positioned to win what would be the ninth XCO World Cup title of his brutal career. However, Sarrou, Fluckiger and Schwarzbauer also have options and will hopefully play their cards to snatch the lead from the Swiss at the last moment.
The weekend awards 280 points - 30 points in the XCC and 250 points in the XCO. Schurter is the only one who depends on himself; it is enough for him to score 192 points, regardless of what the others do. Sarrou needs 90 more points than Schurter, which he would get if he wins on Sunday and the Swiss is third or worse.
Fluckiger has a tougher task, as he would have to score 168 points more than Schurter and 79 more than Sarrou. Schwarzbauer, on the other hand, has a very slim chance, as he has to score 221 points more than Schurter, 132 points more than Sarrou and 53 points more than Fluckiger.
- Nino Schurter 1433 points
- Jordan Sarrou 1344 points
- Mathias Fluckiger 1266 points
- Luca Schwarzbauer 1213 points
- Thomas Griot 1086 points
- Joshua Dubau 996 points
- Alan Hatherly 981 points
- Lars Forster 952 points
- Martins Blums 866 points
- Vlad Dascalu 839 points
In the women's category, Stigger took the victory. The Austrian won her first victory in the highest category of the XCO World Cup. Pieterse was the other big winner of the day, winning the overall, which she achieved at only 21 years of age. With everything decided, the riders will have the incentive of saying goodbye to the season with a good taste in their mouths.
- Puck Pieterse 1741 points
- Mona Mitterwallner 1352 points
- Loana Lecomte 1211 points
- Alessandra Keller 1188 points
- Laura Stigger 1184 points
- Pauline Ferrand-Prevot 1157 points
- Martina Berta 1122 points
- Evie Richards 1116 points
- Anne Terpstra 1049 points
- Jenny Rissveds 995 points
Pidcock, Schurter, Koretzky and Sarrou are the favorites in an event that will be raced with the calculator in hand
Canada will bring down the curtain on the 2023 XCO World Cup. The results are even more difficult to predict than on previous occasions, as all riders want to say goodbye to the calendar with a good performance. Mont Saint Anne is the last bullet before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games season.
Pidcock will once again be on the starting grid and has earned his place at the top of the list of favorites. The rider put in a great performance in Snowshoe, weighed down by a flat tyre and two stops in the technical area that did not prevent the British rider from getting back on track and competing for everything.
Koretzky is another of the names obliged to appear among the main candidates for the victory. Despite the tenth position he achieved on Sunday, the Frenchman is in an excellent form that is allowing him to finish the season at the top, as in the past Short Track.
And from here, it is necessary to name those who have options for the overall. Sarrou arrives in high spirits, as he found his strength after being chased in Snowshoe and won the final sprint to claim his first win of the year in the competition. However, Sarrou's race cannot be understood without the other contenders for the World Cup title.
The four overall contenders will ride with the calculator and will risk more or less depending on how the race develops. Schurter is the favorite in any race he enters and is expected to do well at Mont Saint Anne. Fluckiger found a good version of himself at Snowshoe, while Schwarzbauer will hopefully start to make his chances count from Friday's XCC.
Pieterse, Mitterwallner and Stigger as top contenders to win in Canada
In the women's category the story is quite different. Pieterse is already overall champion of the 2023 XCO World Cup. This situation will make the Dutchwoman risk just enough and sacrifice less than she would if the title was still up for grabs. Still, the competitive gene of any pro will surface and she is likely to be in the fight for the win.
Mitterwallner is another of those who will fight for the first places. The Austrian rider will be looking for revenge for the race in Snowshoe, in which a bad start took away her podium chances. However, she comes backed by the extraordinary comeback she achieved on American soil and her recent victories in Andorra and Les Gets.
Stigger will face the Mont Sainte Anne race in the best moment of the season, after achieving the first victory of his career in the Elite category of the competition.
Berta, Keller, Lecomte or Batten could have legs to stay up, while Ferrand-Prevot will again be absent.
