The Giro d'Italia 2024 will be the main goal of Wout van Aert

The news leaked a few weeks ago and Jumbo-Visma rushed to contain it, but now it has been Wout van Aert himself, after announcing his cyclocross calendar, who has confirmed that the 2024 Giro d'Italia will be his main goal for the next season.

Van Aert is in Colombia where he has participated in the Giro del Rigo, and it was with the local press where he confirmed that his main goal for 2024 was going to be the Giro d'Italia. In addition, this Grand Tour could be the first in which Van Aert considers competing for the overall victory and not just for winning stages, as numerous rumors suggest.

 

Although for Van Aert this will be his first participation in the Giro, he has competed twice in the Tirreno-Adriatico and has won such emblematic Italian races as the Strade Bianche or the Milan-San Remo. That's why in the same statements he confessed that he likes Italy for its "atmosphere, gastronomy and the warmth and expressiveness of its people".

As we have already said, it remains to be confirmed whether Van Aert will start as the team leader, but Sepp Kuss advanced months ago that he would not go to the Giro, Vingegaard is expected to focus his efforts on revalidating victory in the Tour and we remember that Primoz Roglic, current winner of the Giro, left Jumbo-Vismo to lead the Bora team in 2024.
