From saving 120 grams of paint to dressing it in red: Enric Mas’s Canyon Aeroad CFR

Enric Mas debuted in the last stage of La Vuelta 2026 a spectacular Canyon Aeroad CFR customized to celebrate his victory. A special edition dominated by red that replaces the carbon version he had competed with throughout most of the race.

The Canyon Aeroad CFR for the Champion of La Vuelta

Enric Mas arrived in Granada dressed in red and with a bicycle specifically prepared for the occasion. Canyon delivered to the leader of the Movistar Team a special edition Aeroad CFR before the start of stage 21, a unit created to celebrate the first victory of the Mallorcan in a Grand Tour.

The bicycle maintained the same Aeroad CFR platform used by Mas during the road stages, but debuted a completely different decoration. The red, inevitably associated with the leader's jersey of La Vuelta, became the protagonist of a design reserved for the day when Mas had to certify the greatest triumph of his career.

The new bicycle arrived practically at the last moment. Canyon specifically prepared it for the final stage, and Mas was able to debut it on the way to Granada, after having built his victory over the previous three weeks on another Aeroad CFR with a very different aesthetic and technical philosophy.

During La Vuelta, the Mallorcan had mainly used a Canyon Aeroad CFR practically stripped of paint, leaving the carbon of the frame visible. It was not an aesthetic decision. The goal was to reduce as much weight as possible, and as explained by the Movistar Team mechanic during the race, forgoing paint allowed for a weight saving of approximately 120 grams.

On that black finish, small red details were added after Mas took the lead. The bicycle in Granada took that customization much further and made red the main element of the design.

The choice of the Aeroad CFR during 19 of the 21 stages is also significant. Mas is a rider especially associated with the mountains, but Movistar and Canyon have bet on his aerodynamic bicycle even on days with major climbs.

The carbon frame of the Aeroad CFR has a declared weight of around 960 grams and combines high stiffness with a design focused on reducing aerodynamic drag. Canyon has specifically worked on the shapes of the tubes, the front end, and the integration of the whole to achieve a bicycle capable of performing well at high speeds as well as on climbs.

Mas's victory has also given this model its first male victory in the overall of La Vuelta. For Canyon, it is the second male triumph in the Spanish round after the one achieved by Nairo Quintana in 2016, then on an Ultimate.

An Aeroad for practically all of La Vuelta

Mas used the Aeroad CFR during 19 of the 21 stages. The two exceptions were the individual time trials, where he resorted to the Canyon Speedmax CFR TT, the brand's specific time trial bike.

The road setup revolved around the electronic group SRAM Red AXS, including an integrated Quarq power meter. In the race, Mas used a setup with 54/41 chainrings and a 10-36 cassette, a combination that offers a considerable range to tackle a race with significant elevation changes without giving up long gears on fast terrains.

The wheels were another component that varied depending on the stage. Movistar uses Zipp, and Mas alternated different options based on the course. In the mountains, he resorted to lighter setups with the 202 and low-profile wheels, while on days where aerodynamics were more important, he used the Zipp 454 NSW Tubeless, characterized by their wavy profile of approximately 53 to 58 mm.

The tires were Continental Grand Prix 5000, and the rest of the setup followed the usual configuration of the Movistar Team, with components from Fizik, Time, Tacx, and Lizard Skins.
