The Spanish Cyclocross Championship in the elite category once again had familiar winners. In Tarancón (Cuenca), on a fast, compact circuit very similar to the one that the international peloton will encounter in Benidorm during the World Cup, Felipe Orts and Sofía Rodríguez confirmed their dominance with two victories as solid as expected.

Orts wrote a new chapter in a story that is already unique in national cyclocross; this is his eighth national title. For Rodríguez, this is the confirmation that her progression places her as the undisputed reference in the women's category.

Felipe Orts wins his eighth CX Spanish Championship in Tarancón

The men's race started with an unfavorable script for Felipe Orts. The Alicante rider did not find the best position at the start, but the development of the circuit and his current level allowed him to gain ground in a short time.

While the other favorites opted to get off their bikes in the plank area, Orts was the only one able to surpass them mounted, a technical detail that allowed him to open a gap and take the lead. From there, the race was settled. His constant and error-free pace allowed him to extend his lead lap after lap on a course that also served as a top-level test thinking about the World Cup in Benidorm, which will take place next week.

Behind, the battle focused on the podium. Kevin Suárez and Mario Junquera maintained a distance duel for a good part of the race, with the Cantabrian finally prevailing to secure the silver. Orts crossed the finish line alone and added his eighth consecutive elite national title, an absolute record that consolidates him as the great dominator of Spanish cyclocross.

Sofía Rodríguez defends her title and consolidates

The women's race was marked by a much more tactical development. From the start, a leading group formed with the Nesta-MMR riders and a vigilant Sara Cueto.

For several laps, Sofía Rodríguez and Lucía González rode practically in parallel, controlling each other and neutralizing any attempt to break away. Cueto maintained a constant distance, not losing sight of the leaders, while behind, the group gradually stretched out.

Everything was decided in the last lap. Rodríguez launched a change of pace in one of the technical areas of the circuit that proved decisive. González could not respond, and the Valencian opened enough meters to secure the victory solo. A triumph that allows her to defend the national title, confirming her excellent form and her consolidation at the top of Spanish cyclocross.
