Display, assistance and shifting on the handlebar with the new Avinox DP200

Avinox continues to rapidly expand its ecosystem for eBikes. The company has just introduced the new Avinox DP200 Control Display, a 1.4-inch color touchscreen that installs directly on the handlebars and, in addition to displaying system information, integrates five physical buttons to control assistance and shifting.

Avinox DP200, a new display to control motor and shifting from the handlebars

Although Avinox is a relatively new brand in the market, its growth is astonishing. The first M1 system quickly carved out a niche among high-performance e-MTBs, and the arrival of the new Avinox M2 and M2S has solidified that position.

With up to 150 Nm and 1,500 W of peak power in the M2S, but also with new removable batteries, displays, navigation, and an app that allows for in-depth configuration of the system's operation, Avinox has built a platform in a very short time that can already be considered practically a reference within the market.

In fact, in our comparison between the Avinox M2S and the Bosch Performance Line CX, we found that Avinox's proposal goes far beyond just offering particularly high power figures. The integration, the low weight of the motor, and the customization possibilities of the entire system are some of its main arguments against what has been one of the major references in the sector for years.

Now, another piece arrives for that ecosystem. The new DP200 moves the display and a good part of the controls directly to the handlebars, offering manufacturers another alternative to configure their bicycles around the Avinox system.

1.4-inch touchscreen and five physical buttons

The DP200 uses a 1.4-inch color LCD touchscreen with a high brightness level to maintain visibility under direct sunlight. Its surface also has an anti-reflective treatment and is scratch-resistant.

The display has an IP56 certification, so it is designed to withstand both water and mud that we can commonly encounter while using an e-MTB. But probably the most interesting aspect of the DP200 is the combination of display and control.

The device incorporates five physical buttons:

  • Two to modify the assistance modes.
  • Two to control the shifting.
  • One power button.

All of them are positioned within easy reach of the thumb. This way, the cyclist can perform the most common operations without letting go of the handlebars or having to resort to a display located on the top tube.

As Ferdinand Wolf, Avinox's Product Experience Director, explains, the intention is precisely to simplify the operation of the system and allow the display to function simultaneously as an information center and as a shifting control.

Its location on the handlebars also helps reduce some of the necessary wiring and facilitates a cleaner integration into the bicycle.

The DP200 also controls automatic shifting

The integration with the transmission is another important function of the new display. The DP200 is compatible with Avinox's automatic shifting system and allows downshifting when the bicycle is stopped to prepare a more favorable gear before starting again.

The system also includes start-assist functions and automatic shifting during descents. All of this is controlled from the unit installed on the handlebars.

Apple Find My and unlocking via Apple Watch

Connectivity also plays an important role in the DP200. The new display is compatible with Apple Find My, allowing the bicycle to be integrated into Apple's location network without the need to install an additional tracking device.

Additionally, the Apple Watch can be used to unlock the bicycle and function as a second screen to check real-time ride information.

These are functions that continue to reinforce precisely one of the aspects that Avinox is emphasizing the most. The company does not seem to want to limit itself to manufacturing motors, but to develop a complete ecosystem around them in which batteries, controls, displays, applications, transmissions, and safety functions can communicate with each other.

For now, Avinox has not communicated price or specific availability date for the end consumer of the new DP200.
