The team made the announcement official through their social media channels and Van der Poel himself commented: “When you feel the competition bug, you just have to race!”.
Since his participation in the Cyclocross World Championships in Liévin, at the beginning of February, Van der Poel took a vacation and then started his preparation for the classics season. The initial plan was to focus on Tirreno-Adriatico as preparation for the first monument of the year, Milan-San Remo, but he has ultimately chosen to test his sensations at Le Samyn.
