The head of the UCI, David Lappartient, makes a move to become president of the IOC
Next March, elections will be held to choose the new president of the International Olympic Committee, one of the most important positions in the world of sports, which the current president of the UCI, David Lappartient, aspires to occupy.
David Lappartient runs for president of the IOC
There is no doubt that the position of President of the International Olympic Committee is the highest that a sports leader can aspire to, with the exception of others such as leading FIFA or, why not, the UCI, one of the most important international federations worldwide.
The position of president of the UCI seems to fall short for its current leader, the Frenchman David Lappartient, who has presented his candidacy for the presidency of the IOC in elections that will take place next March 2025.

However, Lappartient is not among the favorites for the elections, in which all predictions point to the legendary athlete Sebastian Coe winning. Also in a good starting position is the Spaniard Juan Antonio Samaranch, son of Juan Antonio Samaranch who was president of the IOC during the Barcelona 92 Olympics.
On the other hand, David Lappartient, who has been leading the UCI since 2017 and is also a member of the International Olympic Committee, brings an impeccable curriculum to the helm of the cycling's governing body. Among his recent moves, it is worth mentioning his efforts to try to include cyclocross in the Winter Olympics.
Under his leadership, the UCI held the first cycling superworld last year in Glasgow, which brought together almost all disciplines of the sport, in addition to promoting new forms of cycling such as gravel or electric bike competitions, which under his mandate have also started to have their own world championships.
