Scan your head at home for a customised Hexr helmet
Measure your head at home and order a custom-made helmet. Here's what the new Hexr project is all about. Easy, comfortable and promising excellent results. We tell you what it is, how to do it and why wearing your helmet size is important.
Why it is important to scan your head and wear a helmet of your size
The novelty of this whole procedure is undoubtedly that Hexr has developed the application to scan and measure your head. This is a big step, without a doubt, we can't forget that at the beginning of cycling helmets there was only one model and one size. Now, most brands make them in three sizes: small, medium and large.

But this is already insufficient, with all the technology that has appeared in the last decade: scanners, smartphones, 3D printers. It is time to take the next step.
We have been critical of helmets in general for some time, specially regarding the lack of renewal of some aspects and mainly the safety tests. In all this procedure, it has great influence if your helmet size is the right one.
A large helmet, in one impact, will move on your head, exposing vulnerable areas to a second impact and therefore increasing the risk. And a small helmet, of course, is going to hurt you, ventilate worse and its pressure will reduce normal blood circulation.
Against this background, Hexr's scan to make your case custom can only be seen as a good thing.
Hexr's application to scan your head
The British brand has simplified the process and perfected the sizing. With a smartphone app, you can scan your head at home and have your custom-made cycling helmet made.
The Hexr app captures up to 250,000 points of your head, outlining its size and shape. Then, using cellular technology, i.e. the well-known honeycomb instead of the typical expanded polystyrene, they will make a mould to your size. All that remains to be done is to add the shell to the protection you want.
The operation is simple. You no longer have to go to the Herx offices to have your head scanned. Now, you download an app that is free and request a plate that Herx sends you home. With that plate in your head, you only have to open the app that, with a kind of augmented reality, will scan your head and prototype a 3D model of it.
In a 360-degree turn, the app will have captured this model and will have all the necessary information. Herx will provide you with the final data, and after your approval, in just over a month you will receive your personalised helmet at home.
Herx has specialised for several years in this sector of the cycling market. Customised, made-to-measure bicycle helmets ensure that this way of making truly unique helmets reduces the risk of brain damage by up to 26%. Moreover, their helmets are sustainable: they are made of Polyamide 11, which is obtained from castor oil. The price for all this, is not as exorbitant as you might think: it costs 300 pounds, just under 330 euros.
