Continental has presented a new limited edition inspired by the Tour de France 2026 that combines two of its most advanced road tires: the aerodynamic Aero 111 for the front wheel and the popular Grand Prix 5000 S TR for the rear. In addition to the specific decoration of the Grande Boucle, this series introduces for the first time a version of the Aero 111 with brown sidewalls, a configuration that will only be available within this special package.

Continental launches a special Tour de France 2026 edition with the exclusive Aero 111 in brown sidewall

The German brand will market the set for 216.95 euros and will include a 29 mm Aero 111 tire for the front wheel and a 30 mm Grand Prix 5000 S TR for the rear. Both feature the official Tour de France logo and will also be available for the professional teams sponsored by Continental that will participate in both the men's Tour and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.

The Aero 111, Continental's most aerodynamic tire

Originally presented in 2024 and developed alongside Swiss Side and DT Swiss, the Aero 111 was conceived as Continental's fastest aerodynamic road tire. Its main feature is a very particular tread pattern, designed to work in conjunction with high-profile rims and reduce air resistance when the wind hits from the side.

The technology aims to enhance the so-called sailing effect, taking advantage of certain crosswind conditions to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the wheel-tire system.

According to Continental, the Aero 111 Tour de France Limited Edition weighs 265 grams in the 29 mm size, while the Grand Prix 5000 S TR in 30 mm claims a weight of 305 grams.

A combination designed for real use

Although some expected Continental to pair the Aero 111 with the more exclusive Grand Prix 5000 TT TR, the brand has opted for a more balanced solution for the end user.

The Grand Prix 5000 TT TR is currently the fastest tire in Continental's competition range thanks to a lighter casing and a construction focused exclusively on performance. However, it also sacrifices some durability and puncture protection.

Therefore, the choice of the Grand Prix 5000 S TR seems to respond to a more practical decision. This model remains one of the benchmark competition tires on the market, but offers greater wear resistance and a longer lifespan, characteristics much more valued by amateur cyclists who will use this package outside of professional competition.

BlackChili, Vectran, and hookless compatibility

Both tires incorporate some of Continental's most recognized technologies. The well-known BlackChili compound optimizes the balance between grip, low rolling resistance, and durability, while puncture protection is provided by the Vectran Breaker casing, a solution widely used within the Grand Prix 5000 family.

Both the Aero 111 and the Grand Prix 5000 S TR are Tubeless Ready and are approved for use with hookless rims within ETRTO recommendations.

A tribute to the Tour de France

The limited edition is born as a tribute to the most important race on the cycling calendar and also as a technological showcase for Continental.

“With this year's Tour de France Limited Edition, we wanted to bring together two products that represent the highest performance on the road from Continental. The Aero 111 continues to demonstrate how much performance potential remains to be explored within the tire itself, while the Grand Prix 5000 S TR remains the benchmark in speed, grip, and reliability. Together they create a unique package worthy of the world's greatest cycling race,” explained Hannah Ferle, Road Product Manager at Continental Tires.

The special edition will be available through selected brand distributors and will have a limited production. Continental has also confirmed that the version of the Aero 111 with brown sidewalls will not be sold separately and can only be obtained within this commemorative kit.
