Classified introduces 1x24 MTB drivetrain

If someone has not yet located Classified, we could summarize it by saying that it is perhaps the most promising new company in the cycling components market. Its great innovation is a rear hub that multiplies the gear development without the need of a front derailleur. So far we had only seen it on the road, but they have just introduced a new Powershift model for MTB that offers a wireless 1x24 drivetrain.

New Classified Powershift for MTB: an innovative wireless 1x24 drivetrain

On the road, the Classified Powershift system has conquered amateurs and professionals, and we are already seeing it in high-level competitions as a viable option for mounting single chainring drivetrains. So it was only a matter of time before Classified introduced a MTB version like the one that has just been released and will be available in the spring of 2023.

The system is located on the rear hub and works as if you were wearing a dual chainring but on a 1X drivetrain.

With this Classified Powershift for MTB is as if we had a two chainring drivetrain that multiplies by 0.7 the chainring we have installed. If we ride with a 34t chainring and install Classified Powershift we will have the equivalent of another 23t. With 36t we would ride with the equivalent of another 25t, and with 38t we would have another 26t.

The minimalist ring works as a separate push button and connects to the system wirelessly via Bluetooth. If you have a 34t chainring just switch and start riding as if you had a 23t.

How Classified MTB Powershift works

The first thing to know is that Classified Powershift does not act as a complete drivetrain, it just adds to the one you have installed. That means that we need the chainring, derailleur and chain we want, it works with any system from Shimano, SRAM, etc.

The Classified Powershift system consists of a proprietary 12-speed steel cassette (11-40), the rear hub that includes the shifting system, a thru axle that functions as a wireless receiver, a minimalist push-button ring from which to shift on the handlebars, and a rear wheel compatible with the system or Classified's own rear wheel.

The thru-axle serves as a wireless receiver
  • Cassette: 12s 11-40t 530% Ratio - 248g
  • Powershift Boost hub: O.L.D: 148mm boost - 485g
  • Boost Hubshell: 28h - 125g / 32h - 165g
  • Ringshifter: Bluetooth - 24g
  • M25/30 Carbon Wheelset: 685g rear / 680g fron

Benefits of the MTB Classified system

  • Ultimate gear range: Powershift increases the gearing range of the compact 11-40 cassette to 530%.
  • More efficient than a dual chainring: this system eliminates chain crossings and optimizes the rear suspension system
  • Smoother and more progressive shifting: shifting at maximum load is no longer a problem and Classified promises effective shifting up to 1000 watts.
  • Durability: combining a high grade, one piece steel cassette with a 10% bigger chainring, Classified is able to improve the overall durability of the drivetrain. ?

Classified Powershift for MTB: prices and options
