BOA assures, with data, that its closures improve performance and brings its technology to the helmets

BOA has taken advantage of the celebration of its 25th anniversary to present new data on the impact of its adjustment systems on cycling performance and, at the same time, officially launch FS2, a new adjustment platform for helmets that promises a level of customization and fit superior to conventional systems.

BOA celebrates 25 years demonstrating that a better fit also means more performance and launches its revolutionary FS2 helmet system

The American company, widely known for its micrometric closures found in road, MTB, and gravel shoes from some of the leading brands in the market, claims that its latest research conducted at the Human Performance Fit Lab (HPFL) reinforces the importance of fit as a direct factor in sports performance.

More speed and more power thanks to fit

In recent months, we have seen many professional cyclists returning to lace-up shoes as they advocate for better aerodynamics.

In this regard, and according to the data presented by BOA, their closure systems applied to cycling shoes offer measurable advantages over traditional laces. The brand claims that a uniform fit through its BOA-Powered Wrap technology can provide up to 3% more power transfer, improve energy efficiency by up to 1.5%, and increase speed by up to 3.5% in road cycling.

The results obtained in their tests also point to a net gain of 3 watts at the start of the effort and up to 7 watts at the end of the activity, figures that, according to the company, can translate into an improvement of approximately one and a half minutes in a 21.5-kilometer ascent at a 7.5% average gradient completed in about an hour.

In more technical disciplines like downhill, BOA claims that the benefit is not limited to power but also improves stability and control over the bike by up to 4%, while also maintaining speed increases of up to 3.5%.

BOA FS2 for helmets

The real novelty of this announcement is the arrival of the FS2 system for helmets, a completely new platform developed to offer multidirectional and micrometric high-precision fit.

BOA claims that FS2 provides a fit resolution 40% more precise than traditional systems currently used in cycling helmets. In addition, it allows for adjustments of less than a millimeter even while in motion.

The system is based on Dynamic360 technology, which replaces the usual localized pressure points with a uniform distribution of tension around the entire head. To achieve this, it uses a set consisting of:

  • Micrometric FS2 dial.
  • FS2 rear arch with 11 vertical positions.
  • FS2 front guide.
  • Low-friction TX1.2 textile cord.

BOA states that this architecture achieves a fit up to 6% firmer than conventional systems and improves helmet stability thanks to specific support on the occipital bone and the sides of the head.

Another highlighted aspect is that the new FS2 dial incorporates 36% recycled materials in its construction, maintaining the usual standards of strength and durability of the brand.

With this new generation of helmet systems, BOA aims to bring the same philosophy to cranial fit that has made its dials a standard in the cycling shoe market: a more precise, more uniform fit that, according to its data, can translate into real improvements on the bike.
