Avinox presents an engine that eliminates the cassette and derailleur, this is the Avinox MG Concept

The first Avinox system with an integrated gearbox is already a conceptual reality. The brand has taken advantage of Eurobike 2026 to showcase the new Avinox MG Concept, a power unit that combines motor and transmission into a single unit and has been developed alongside some of the most influential manufacturers in the market, such as Canyon, Commencal, Forbidden, Mondraker, and Megamo.

Avinox shows the future of e-bikes with a motor that eliminates cassette and derailleur

The presentation comes just three months after the launch of the Avinox M2 and M2S motors, a development speed that demonstrates the company's ambition to continue pushing the boundaries of electric assistance. Although it is currently a conceptual product, the MG Concept anticipates where the next generation of high-performance e-bikes could be headed. And the truth is that it is not the only manufacturer at Eurobike pointing in that direction; other brands have also presented integrated transmission motors there.

A motor with integrated transmission

The main novelty of the Avinox MG Concept is that it integrates the gearbox within the power unit itself. This allows for the elimination of the traditional multi-sprocket cassette and rear derailleur, simplifying the transmission and reducing the elements exposed to impacts, dirt, and wear.

According to Avinox, the system is capable of shifting gears in less than 0.1 seconds and maintaining a continuous power delivery during the transition between gears. Additionally, it allows for shifting both under high pedaling loads and with the bicycle completely stopped.

The brand claims that users will be able to choose from several operating modes:

  • Traditional manual shifting.
  • Automatic shifting based on cadence.
  • AI+ automatic mode oriented towards high-speed riding.
  • Ability to shift up or down multiple gears simultaneously.

Less maintenance and more possibilities for manufacturers

Another of the main arguments for the MG Concept is the drastic reduction in maintenance. By integrating the entire transmission within a sealed unit, Avinox claims that the gearbox will not require maintenance throughout its entire lifespan.

The system also allows for the use of single-speed transmissions via chain or even belt, completely eliminating the need for a rear derailleur and conventional cassette.

From the manufacturers' perspective, the company highlights that the new platform has been designed to be more compact and lightweight, which would facilitate its integration into different segments of electric bikes, such as eMTB, eSUV, Trekking, and electric Gravel, among others.

Better performance under high loads

Avinox has also focused on dynamic behavior. The company claims that even with heavily loaded bicycles and total weights exceeding 150 kg, the system maintains a natural riding feel, avoiding excessive flex or the "spongy" effect that can occur in some integrated transmission solutions.

Additionally, there is a new intelligent anti-theft function capable of locking the motor in real-time and which, according to the brand, can continue to function even when the bicycle is not powered.

A project backed by some of the most important brands in the industry

The involvement of manufacturers such as Canyon, Commencal, Forbidden, Mondraker, and Megamo is particularly significant, as it indicates that the industry is actively exploring the potential of integrated transmissions as an alternative to conventional configurations.

Although Avinox has not announced production dates or definitive technical specifications—such as the number of gears, gear range, weight, or maximum torque—the MG Concept seems very advanced to be just a conceptual idea, and it appears that the brand has been testing functional units for some time.
