The fourth stage of the 2026 Tour of Poland was completely marked by a spectacular multiple crash that forced the organizers to neutralize the race and modify the route with about 40 kilometers remaining to the finish in Karpacz. Constant rain and wet asphalt caused an accident in the peloton involving around twenty riders, including João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG).

This massive crash neutralizes and shortens the fourth stage of the Tour of Poland

The accident occurred after 135 kilometers of racing, just before the two decisive climbs of the day. While the peloton was chasing a breakaway of four riders who had nearly two minutes of advantage, numerous cyclists went down on the wet pavement, forcing a complete stop of the competition to attend to the injured and clear the road.

Among those affected were several riders from UAE Team Emirates-XRG, such as João Almeida, Juan Sebastián Molano, Jan Christen, and Rune Herregodts, as well as Benoît Cosnefroy, Wilco Kelderman, Bart Lemmen, Rudy Molard, Matevž Govekar, Jardi van der Lee, and Robin Froidevaux, among others.

At the front of the race were Matteo Malucelli (XDS-Astana), Dries De Bondt (Jayco-AlUla), Tobiasz Pawlak, and Patryk Stosz (Poland National Team), who had been in a breakaway practically since the official start. The four were forced to stop while the officials assessed the situation.

The neutralization lasted for about half an hour. After discussing with the riders and teams, the organization decided to resume the stage, keeping the four escapees at the front with the 1:50 advantage they had before the accident. Additionally, the route was shortened by 14 kilometers, although the final climb to Borowice remained within the final course.

Jonathan Milan dominates the Tour of Poland

The Tour of Poland, which takes place from August 3 to 9, had so far been experiencing a clear dominance by Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek). The Italian had won the first three stages and began the fourth day 18 seconds behind Paul Magnier (Soudal-Quick Step) and 20 seconds behind Noah Hobbs (EF Education-EasyPost).

The priority now is to know the condition of the riders involved in the crash and to check if any of them suffer injuries that could force them to abandon the Polish round. Meanwhile, the race has managed to resume after one of the most significant incidents of this edition.
