There are expensive components, exclusive components, and then there are the new S-Works Custom TT Extensions from Specialized. The American brand has decided to bring to market one of the most unique elements of Remco Evenepoel's time trial bike with which he just won the World Championship. Completely customized extensions with a listed price of almost 18,000€. Yes, almost 18,000 euros for the front part of a time trial handlebar.

Specialized puts the extensions developed around Remco Evenepoel on sale

The product is named S-Works Custom TT Extensions and, more than just simple carbon extensions, what Specialized offers is a customization process directly inspired by the work done over the last few years with Remco Evenepoel.

Evenepoel has just conquered in Montreal his fourth consecutive world title in time trial, after defeating Filippo Ganna by 57 seconds. And the handlebar and, above all, Evenepoel's position have been one of the most recognizable elements of his time trial bike for years. Very high and close hands, perfectly fitted forearms, and an extremely closed position that seeks to minimize the frontal area without compromising the cyclist's ability to maintain it throughout the race.

In fact, the customized carbon extensions were already one of the most striking pieces of his previous Specialized Shiv and we have seen them in the new Shiv TT prototype. In them, the supports wrap around a good part of the forearms, while the grips bring the hands almost together.

From a biomechanical study to 3D prototypes and the wind tunnel

Here is precisely the explanation for a price that is completely out of the ordinary. Specialized does not present the S-Works Custom TT Extensions as a standard component that is purchased by choosing a size. Instead, each unit is developed specifically for its owner.

As Specialized itself explains, the process used starts from Body Geometry work and the cyclist's position. From there, different concepts are developed that are later materialized through 3D printed prototypes.

Then comes the aerodynamic phase. The different solutions go through Specialized's wind tunnel and are complemented with tests on the bike itself until the final configuration is defined. It is, essentially, transferring to a particular customer a part of the development process used with a world champion.

The logic behind this customization is especially important in time trial. The fastest solution for Evenepoel does not have to be the same for another cyclist. Arm length, shoulder width, mobility, torso proportions, and the ability to hold a certain position completely modify the optimal configuration.

Instead of manufacturing extensions with multiple adjustments to try to adapt them later to the cyclist, Specialized proposes to create the cockpit around the specific position of the user.

Almost 18,000 euros for a small piece within an extreme bike

The extensions are also only a part of all the work that Specialized has done around Evenepoel.

During the 2026 Tour and this World Championship, we have already seen the Belgian compete on a new S-Works Shiv TT still in prototype phase, identified then by the corresponding UCI label. That bike precisely maintained a cockpit with a V-base bar and customized carbon extensions.

The search for marginal gains extends to seemingly minimal details. Position, wheels, gearing, buttons, or even the way to place grip tape in certain areas are part of a set designed solely to reduce seconds.

And now Specialized allows, at least in certain markets, to purchase one of the most exclusive pieces of that set.
