A Volta that never misses renowned cyclists although, this time it starts being news because of the absence of Jonas Vingegaard who, after the fall suffered in Paris-Nice, has preferred not to take the start and recover 100%.

This moves the role of top favorite for the victory to Primoz Roglic who, after a discreet debut in Volta ao Algarve had not returned to compete and, as it can not be otherwise, will try to release his palmares in this 2025.

It will not be easy for the Slovenian to win the Volta a Catalunya 2025 because he will face a UAE Team Emirates-XRG with a Juan Ayuso in stellar mode who, after his victory in Tirreno-Adriatico, occupies the first position in the classification of cyclists who have achieved more points so far this season. Besides, UAE will support the cyclist from Alicante with men of tremendous solvency as Adam Yates, Domen Novak or Marc Soler.

Despite the absence of Jonas Vingeagaard, Visma-Lease a Bike is still scary with up to three men: Steven Kruijswijk, Simon Yates and Sepp Kuss who could be in the fight for victory.

And the good news for INEOS Grenadiers is the return, after recovering from the collarbone fracture he suffered during the Clásica Jaen, of Egan Bernal, who was riding a lot until his break and, presumably, will not have lost too much form since, nowadays, cyclists are practically pedaling the day after undergoing surgery to fix that bone that so often makes crack in the pros.

Finally, we can not forget the Spanish representation that will have, on the one hand, a Mikel Landa always fighter and, on the other hand, a Movistar Team that will have Enric Mas, who will have to show his progress after a very quiet start of the campaign; and a Javi Romo who has dazzled in all the races in which he has taken part.

Route of the Volta a Catalunya 2025

The Volta a Catalunya 2025 has an interesting route, with no time trial among its partial stages and with almost all the stages having a broken profile in order to encourage the cyclists to show themselves and give a spectacle.

A race that will start with a mid-mountain day in the Girona area, with start and finish in San Feliu de Guíxols and a profile full of little passes through a terrain that until not so long ago was the fashionable place for professional training.

The race will continue with a partial that will take the peloton to Figueras, in a stage prepared for a presumably sprint finish but that, like all, has its dose of hardness with the linking of the passes of Coll Puig del Pení and Coll de Sant Pere de Rodes in the intermediate part that, due to its hardness, can lead to the formation of a good level breakaway that finally ends up disputing the stage and, why not, conditioning in some way the general classification.

Traditional route with the Cerdanya region as the protagonist of the third part that will again have the usual end of stage in the ski resort of La Molina although, on this occasion, it takes on an extra interest since it will be preceded by the hard ascent to the Creueta that, for sure, will leave the group very selected towards the finish line.

Without rest, it will continue with what is perhaps the most awaited stage by the fans, especially by the Catalan cyclists for whom this final has a very special meaning. We are talking about the ascent to the Monastery of Montserrat, one of the most mythical climbs in Catalonia and that, despite having only one other scoring port before, will run through a leg-breaking route that will demand the maximum from the cyclists.

Respite for the peloton of the Volta a Catalunya in the fifth stage, a day with hardly any difficulty that will take the race to the lands of Tarragona, specifically to the town of Amposta. The calm before the storm that must be the penultimate stage of this Volta a Catalunya 2025, tremendously demanding and where the race returns to the great discovery of the last edition, the region of Bergadá, including what is surely one of the hardest ports of this autonomous community as is the Coll de Pradell. A stage with 4 scoring ports and a high finish with the ascent to Queralt.

The Volta a Catalunya will conclude with the traditional finish in Barcelona. A very short stage of just 88 kilometers marked, as it could not be otherwise, by the circuit of Montjuic to which the cyclists will have to do 6 laps including the ascent to the Castell de Montjuic, which will be the protagonist of next year's Tour de France.

How to watch the Volta a Catalunya 2025

As usual, both RTVE and Eurosport will provide coverage of the Volta a Catalunya, in both cases, both on their conventional channels Teledeporte in the case of public television and Eurosport 2 for the private channel, as well as on their associated online platforms RTVE Play and Max.

In any case, the race will be broadcasted between 15:15 and 17:15 in the afternoon when the stages are scheduled to finish.
