What separates world-class cyclists from elite ones? The new documentary "The Cycle" seeks the answer
Professional cycling is full of different stories. Some are born in privileged environments, while others are forged through obstacles, sacrifice, and perseverance. That is precisely the common thread of “The Cycle,” the new documentary that is now available on HBO Max and discovery+, which narrates the journey to the elite of five very different cyclists.

The documentary follows five athletes who currently compete at the highest level within the Trek sports ecosystem.
On one side, there are two riders from the Lidl-Trek team in road cycling and cyclocross: the Belgian Thibau Nys, one of the most outstanding young talents in European cycling, and the Danish Emma Norsgaard, a regular protagonist in the international peloton.
Mountain biking also plays a leading role in the film with Evie Richards, world champion of XCO and one of the most recognized riders on the international circuit within the Trek Factory Racing team.
The film also offers a look at other disciplines, such as freeride, featuring the Swedish Emil Johansson, considered one of the world references in this specialty, and downhill represented by the New Zealander Lachie Stevens-McNab, a rider from the Trek Factory Racing DH team.
“The Cycle” focuses on the personal processes behind each race. The documentary shows how some athletes come from modest backgrounds, others grow up surrounded by cycling, and some take on roles of sacrifice within their teams so that others can achieve glory.
The central idea is to show that there is no single path to professionalism, but rather very different trajectories that converge on the same goal: to compete at the highest level of world cycling.
The documentary is now available for streaming and can be watched exclusively in Europe through HBO Max and discovery+.
