We tested the Gobik Skimo Pro 2.0: the jacket that redefines winter

There are garments that are born for cold days and others that seem to defy winter. The Gobik Heavy Jacket Skimo Pro 2.0 undoubtedly belongs to the second category. In its new version, Gobik updates one of its most emblematic products with a notable leap in thermal protection, aerodynamics, and comfort, achieving one of the most balanced jackets we have tested for winter climates.

For several weeks, we have put it to the test in real conditions, on routes with temperatures between 2 °C and 10 °C, with wind, humidity, and some light rain. And the result has been clear: this jacket not only retains heat but manages it intelligently.

Design and first impressions of the Skimo Pro 2.0

The Skimo Pro 2.0 maintains the DNA of the first version, but Gobik has refined its pattern with more precise panels and a cleaner and more aerodynamic back silhouette. When you put it on, you feel that difficult balance between a fitted garment and one that allows total freedom of movement. There is no sensation of stiffness or excessive compression.

The outer fabric has a technical feel, with a light water-repellent layer. The minimalist cuffs, the heat-sealed zipper, and the seams without visible stitching convey the feeling of being in front of a garment that has been cared for down to the last detail. It weighs just 400 grams (size M), a remarkable figure for the level of insulation it offers.

The aesthetics have also evolved: the Cardin Green color we tested combines elegance with discretion, moving away from the classic winter black, but without renouncing the sober style characteristic of Gobik.

Real thermal protection: Polartec® as the core

The main advance of this version lies in its new front panel with Polartec® membrane. This multilayer fabric is the technical heart of the jacket: it blocks the wind, repels water, and at the same time allows the body to breathe.

During the coldest outings, the sensation is of stable and dry warmth, even during intense effort segments. The inner face, made of polyamide microfleece, is extremely pleasant to the touch against the skin or with a thin base layer. This inner lining distributes heat without generating excess moisture, which avoids the feeling of soaking that other thermal garments produce when the pace increases.

In conditions of headwind or prolonged descents, the protection is total. The jacket blocks the air without generating that "sauna" effect that less breathable laminates sometimes have. In this sense, Gobik has achieved a balance between insulation and ventilation that is hard to find.

Breathability and sweat evacuation

In winter cycling, maintaining warmth is as important as managing internal humidity. And here the Skimo Pro 2.0 excels.

The back is made with a more elastic and breathable winter thermal lycra, designed to allow sweat evaporation during moments of greater effort. On long climbs or when the body is already warm, the difference in fabrics between the front and back is noticeable: the internal temperature remains stable and the interior does not saturate.

In our tests, even with a long-sleeve thermal base layer and temperatures of 8–10 °C, we never felt sweat accumulation. At the end of the ride, the interior was slightly damp but never wet, demonstrating good management of body vapor.

Fit and comfort on the road

Gobik defines the fit of this jacket as Perfect Fit, and it is not just marketing. It is a very fitted pattern, designed to maintain aerodynamics without penalizing mobility. The back fits perfectly, without wrinkles or looseness, even in an aggressive pedaling position.

The sharper side panels provide a "competition jacket" feel, but with the warmth needed for long rides. The minimalist cuffs are one of the great successes: thin, comfortable, and easy to fit under winter gloves. They prevent air leaks without generating pressure.

The high and ergonomic collar seals well without discomfort. In combination with a thin buff, it forms a very effective thermal barrier. And the heat-sealed zipper operates smoothly, even with thick gloves, thanks to its oversized pull tab.

Load capacity and functional details

One of the points we value most in a winter jacket is its transport capacity. The Skimo Pro 2.0 scores well here. It has three classic rear pockets with the GRS (Gobik Retention System), which prevent items from bouncing or moving, and an extra zippered pocket for keys or a phone as we can see in the photograph.

The detail of the lower gusset allows water to drain in case of light rain, and the mesh inner pocket —divided into three sections— is ideal for storing thin gloves or gels without them getting cold. Additionally, the wide silicone band on the back keeps the jacket in place, even when moving on the saddle.

The reflective details increase visibility in low-light conditions, which is essential for winter training.

On the move: performance in real conditions

During the tests, the jacket performed with outstanding consistency. On cold days (2–4 °C) and with constant wind, a light thermal base layer underneath was enough to maintain a continuous thermal comfort sensation. On slightly milder outings (10–12 °C), it could even be worn with a thinner base layer without the risk of getting cold.

The protection against light rain or mist is good. It is not a waterproof jacket, but the water-repellent treatment holds up well against the first drops or ambient humidity. The outer surface allows water to form small beads that slide off without soaking.

In terms of mobility, the fabric offers excellent elasticity: when standing on the bike or twisting the torso, there is no sensation of tightness. The jacket moves with you, not against you. At no point did we perceive flapping, even when riding fast with a crosswind.

Comparative sensations: balance above all

There are many thicker thermal jackets on the market, but few are as balanced. Models like the Castelli Alpha RoS 2 or the Sportful Fiandre focus on greater waterproofing but sacrifice some breathability. The Skimo Pro 2.0 sits right in the middle: it is lighter and more comfortable while maintaining a very high thermal performance.

We could say that its philosophy is that of a jacket for training hard in winter, rather than just surviving a storm. And that makes it perfect for cyclists looking for protection without excess weight or bulk.

Care and maintenance

Gobik insists on taking good care of the garment to maintain its properties. It is essential to wash it inside out, with cold water and neutral detergent, without fabric softeners or a dryer. It is also advisable not to use backpacks or messenger bags, as continuous rubbing can wear down the outer fabric.

After several washes following the recommendations, the jacket retains its shape, color, and original feel. The heat-sealed seams and water-repellent treatment hold up well to frequent use.

Conclusions: a garment that sets the bar very high

The Gobik Heavy Jacket Skimo Pro 2.0 is not just an evolution of its predecessor: it is a reference jacket for cyclists who train all winter. Its combination of Polartec® technology, precise patterning, and excellent thermal management places it among the best options on the market in its price range (€170).

Its strong point is balance: it protects, breathes, and fits without compromise. If you ride in cold or humid areas, this jacket can be your best ally to keep motivation high when the thermometer drops.

  • Ideal for: regular winter training, routes with wind and humidity, cyclists who value thermal protection without sacrificing lightness.
  • Recommended temperature: between 0 °C and 12 °C.
  • Strong points: fit, insulation, breathability, aesthetics.
  • To improve: no total waterproof version (although that is not its purpose).
