Vingegaard still thinks it is possible to win the Tour de France
Despite the setback suffered in the Pyrenees, with two victories by Tadej Pogacar leaving the Dane more than 3 minutes behind in the general classification, Jonas Vingegaard continues to trust in his chances of victory in the Tour de France 2024. A Grande Boucle that has its last week remaining with a return to the Alps and a tough final time trial on the French Riviera.
Jonas Vingegaard does not give up and promises to keep fighting for the Tour de France 2024
Any other rider would have arrived at the finish line completely defeated after two days through the Pyrenees where nothing went as he would have liked. But not Jonas Vingegaard, he is a fighter, in yesterday's stage he proposed, made his team work, burned his ships, and gave everything in an attack with all he had even knowing that by not being able to drop Tadej Pogacar he would likely be caught in the counterattack as it happened.
Jonas Vingegaard was categorical at the finish line "I am very proud of how I raced and of the team's work. In the final climb, I felt very strong, I think I had one of the best performances of my life. But Tadej was very strong, I cannot be disappointed".

Undoubtedly, the second rest day that the cyclists of the Tour de France 2024 enjoy today will be a good moment at Visma-Lease a Bike to analyze everything that happened in the Pyrenees and try to plan a strategy for the remaining stages, which consist of two medium mountain stages, the first one with a summit finish and three consecutive climbs similar to the day in the Massif Central in Le Lioran where he managed to take the stage from Pogacar; and the second one, heading to Barcelonnette, a real sawtooth.
They will be followed by the brutal stage of Isola 2000, an alpine stage in the old style with one of the mythical climbs of the Alps such as the Bonette, although, against it, is the fact that this stage has a fairly short distance, barely 144 km, although by that point the accumulated fatigue during these weeks will also play a role. Finally, another medium mountain stage, similar to the one that usually closes the Paris-Nice. Territory for ambushes and with the incentive of a summit finish at the Col de la Couillole. All this without neglecting a time trial with a very tough profile to close the race.
In other words, there is still ground to be gained and to try to set up a trap, although, obviously, everything depends on Pogacar having a bad day and being able to take advantage of it since, with the strength that the Slovenian has been showing, he currently seems completely unreachable. In fact, this possibility is what Jonas Vingegaard clings to "I think there are still chances to win the Tour. The Tour de France is not over yet and, in the last two years, Tadej has had bad days in the last week. We have to hope that can happen".
Also, we should not overlook the infamous covid that is circulating among the peloton and has affected numerous cyclists. The latest, in yesterday's stage, Egan Bernal, who crossed the finish line feeling the scythe of being out of control over his head.
The directors of the Danish rider at Visma-Lease a Bike have a similar discourse, emphasizing the excellent form in which he has managed to arrive despite the serious crash at the Itzulia. "The numbers are good, close and even better than last year, I don't know exactly. But Pogacar is better than last year. We will have to see but, if Pogacar continues like this, it will be very difficult" stated Grischa Niermann, one of the sports directors of the Dutch team.
