Vingegaard abandons the 2026 Tour after a hard crash (Video)

The 2026 Tour de France has taken an unexpected turn in stage 15. Jonas Vingegaard has been forced to abandon the race after a hard fall with 18 kilometers remaining to the finish at Plateau de Solaison, just before the conclusion of a day that was expected to feature a new showdown in the mountains with Tadej Pogacar.

The leader of Visma Lease a Bike was riding in the favorites' group when, while negotiating a roundabout, he lost control of his bike and ended up crashing violently against the curb. Other contenders for the general classification were also involved in the accident, including Isaac del Toro, although all of them were able to resume riding immediately.

Vingegaard, however, remained on the ground for several moments and immediately began to touch his collarbone area. His team's car quickly arrived at the scene of the accident, and the assistants immobilized his arm by directly placing a sling on him, an image that foreshadowed the Danish rider's withdrawal.

Vingegaard's withdrawal comes at a crucial moment in the Tour. The stage was finishing at the demanding Plateau de Solaison, a climb where the Dane aimed to test Tadej Pogacar and try to close the gap in the general classification.

So far, Visma Lease a Bike has not reported on the exact extent of the injuries suffered by their leader, awaiting medical tests to determine if there is a collarbone fracture or other injuries resulting from the impact.
