Crashes, illness, and other reasons: All the withdrawals from the 2026 Tour de France so far
The 2026 Tour de France has already passed its first half, and the race is starting to take one of its usual tolls. After twelve stages contested, the peloton has already lost several of its key players due to falls, illnesses, and other incidents, significantly reducing the number of riders still on the way to Paris.
The 2026 Tour de France reaches its midpoint with 174 riders in the race: all the withdrawals, one by one
The 113th edition of the Grande Boucle started on July 4 with 184 cyclists spread across 23 teams. After the first twelve days of competition, 174 riders remain in the race, which means that 10 participants have withdrawn before completing the halfway point of the event.
As usually happens every year, falls have been the main cause of withdrawals, although there have also been dropouts due to illness, concussions, and even one rider eliminated for finishing outside the time limit. Some important names are no longer part of the Tour, including Chris Harper, Cian Uijtdebroeks, Arnaud De Lie, and Torstein Træen.

The first withdrawal occurred even before the second day of competition ended. Frenchman Clément Berthet (Groupama-FDJ United) suffered a concussion during the opening stage and could not start the second day.
The third stage saw the withdrawal of Arnaud De Lie (Lotto Intermarché), who had to withdraw due to illness just as the first days of the Tour were beginning.
In the fourth stage, the only sports elimination so far occurred. Kelland O’Brien (Team Jayco AlUla) crossed the finish line outside the maximum allowed time and was eliminated for finishing out of control (Hors Délai).
The sixth stage was particularly tough for the peloton and saw four withdrawals. Bert Van Lerberghe (Soudal Quick-Step) could not finish the day after a fall. Cian Uijtdebroeks (Movistar Team) also withdrew, affected by an illness that he seemed to have even before starting the Tour, while Arvid de Kleijn (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) also failed to complete the stage. On the same day Alex Molenaar (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), who had suffered a concussion, could not start.
The seventh stage began with another significant absence. Torstein Træen (Uno-X Mobility) did not start, the Norwegian cyclist who lost the yellow jersey the day before, suffered a severe fall on the descent of the Tourmalet and although he finished the stage, a concussion and several broken ribs left him out of the race.
The tenth day further reduced the peloton even before the stage began. Matteo Trentin (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) did not start due to illness.
Finally, the eleventh stage began without Chris Harper (Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team). The Australian had suffered a very hard fall during the previous stage on the descent of Puy Mary and after finishing the stage had to undergo surgery, the rider himself explained that he had lost part of his finger as a result of the accident.
With twelve stages already contested, the Tour enters its second half with a still numerous peloton, but in which injuries, accumulated fatigue, and high temperatures are starting to make a difference. Traditionally, mountain stages and the last week tend to cause new withdrawals, so it is expected that the list of withdrawals will continue to grow before reaching Paris.
