VanMoof, the Tesla of e-bikes, has entered into suspension of payments

Earlier this week we learned that VanMoof had stopped sales through its website under the pretext of meeting delivery deadlines, but now we have just learned that a court in Amsterdam has granted VanMoof Global Holding B.V. a preliminary suspension of payments. Something that only confirms the rumors about the weak financial stability the company was going through.

VanMoof enters into suspension of payments pending resolution of financial situation

In a press release issued on the evening of July 12th, 2023, VanMoof announced that "the court has also ordered a cooling down period of two months. Together with the administrators we are currently assessing the situation in order to find a solution so that VanMoof can continue its activities."

The Dutch company VanMoof was often compared to the giant Tesla, and after its creation in 2009, its mechanical bicycles became very popular thanks to their design, marketing and the guarantee that the brand offered even in the event of theft.

In 2016, the brand presented its first electric bike and with it, it could be said that luxury urban ebikes became fashionable. But it seems that it has been just the problems and warranty repair costs of some of its models that have caused an imbalance in the financial stability of the company.

Rumors about its instability together with the announcement, earlier this week, of the halt in sales caused many customers to approach these days to the physical stores of the brand to request the return of prepayments for orders and even to pick up bikes that were in the store, still under repair. About this, VanMoof said in its press release:"We work hard to continue our services and will separately contact all customers as soon as possible regarding pending deliveries or repairs."
