"I expected his first race to be quieter, but he showed who's boss": Van der Poel's superiority kills the thrill
Despite the "threats" from the UCI, the cyclocross season has stepped up a level in a race outside the World Cup. It was at the X2O Trofee in Herentals and here Mathieu van der Poel made his debut with a power demonstration that ended the excitement of the test.
Van der Poel's recital killed the excitement in Herentals
Van der Poel's superiority was evident from the very start and the World Champion rode alone throughout the race. At the end, he was asked if he found it boring to ride without rivals for an hour, to which he replied:
"Was it boring to drive alone for an hour? Certainly not, I enjoyed it. I only lost focus when I crash. But otherwise, it was nice to be back. I like doing that: riding at my own pace, choosing my own lines. So it was fun. I have trained for a long time to be back and it's good to have confirmation immediately".
Van der Haar manages to stay at the top in the X2O Trophy. Eli Iserbyt is only nine seconds behind. "In fact, he doesn't give it away, but neither do I. Eli is just a stone geode crosser. He's there from start to finish. For me, I expect a less moment from him and I have to keep exploding".
