It is not common to see renewals at this point in the season, but Alpecin-Deceuninck did not want to delay much longer the moment to secure their big star. Van der Poel secures his future for the next decade
Beyond the expected renewal with Alpecin-Deceunink, team to which Mathieu van der Poel has been linked for 14 years, previously under the name of Corendon-Circus, a structure owned by the Roodhooft brothers and with which he made the leap to the road from cyclocross in 2019, a season in which he amazed us from the very beginning with spectacular victories like the one he gave us in the Amstel Gold Race that year.

Now, Van der Poel adds another 4 years to his relationship with Alpecin-Deceuninck, actually 3, since his current contract was valid until 2025. However, the team has decided not to wait and give rise to speculations, preferring to secure an irreplaceable rider. Additionally, the statement leaves open the possibility of a new contract extension when the time comes.
“This renewal is a logical choice for me. I have felt especially comfortable in the structures of Philip and Christoph Roodhooft from the beginning. We have grown together with the team and I feel that we continue to evolve. Although we have achieved many successes together, I still have hunger for more. Not least is the fact that Alpecin-Deceuninck is a multidisciplinary team. It is the perfect team to continue combining road, cyclocross, and mountain bike”, stated Van der Poel after the renewal was announced.
Aside from extending his contract with the team, it has also been announced today that he has done the same with Canyon, with whom he has a personal sponsorship. The German brand announced that it was extending its relationship with Mathieu van der Poel for another 10 years, corresponding to the contract with Alpecin-Deceuninck and then, if Mathieu decides to retire, he would continue to be linked to the bike brand as an ambassador, practically securing his future for the day he hangs up the bike.
