Trek Top Fuel Gen 4: setups and prices
Trek has announced the launch of the Top Fuel Gen 4. The new version maintains the downcountry character but renews the geometry, lightens the frame, and increases the rear shock travel from its predecessor. The range is reduced to seven models and is priced between 2,500 and 9,700 euros, approximately.
Trek Top Fuel Gen 4: another twist to a bike that wants it all
The Top Fuel was for a time the reference cross-country full suspension bike from Trek; this was the purpose for which it was designed and from which it forged its first stage in the market. The story changed with the arrival of the Supercaliber, the model that pushed the Top Fuel into a poorly defined territory in a context where the boundaries between MTB categories were becoming increasingly blurred.

In this way, Trek redesigned the Top Fuel to turn it into a downcountry bike -the American manufacturer prefers to label it as 'Fast Trail'-. In any case, it is a bike conceived to ride well both uphill and downhill, halfway between a trail bike and a pure competition XC double.
The model is designed to meet the needs of those cyclists who prioritize pedaling efficiency and lightness, but also want to face descents with an extra dose of confidence. The Top Fuel now has 130mm of rear travel and maintains the 120mm of travel in the fork -compatible up to 140mm-.
One of the main novelties highlighted by the brand is the increase in frame stiffness and weight reduction in both versions -about 220 grams lighter in both-. The design has opted for more efficient tube shapes; the concept, based on smaller profiles and smoothed edges, was inspired by the knowledge gained in the development of the Supercaliber Gen 2.
Another key point is the improved internal storage. Trek has focused its efforts on achieving a tighter closure, a larger opening, and increasing cable protection.
The geometry -which draws from some of the usual measures in enduro- has slightly changed compared to the previous version. The head angle has been launched even further -now, 65.5°; before, 66°-, while the effective seat tube angle of 76° and the 447mm reach remain the same. In addition, it incorporates a flip chip -under the name Mino Link- that allows modifying the geometry in four positions.
Another novelty is the different chainstay length depending on the size, maintaining balanced handling for all frame sizes and weight centered between the wheels. The brand reports that the chainstay length is achieved by the placement of the bottom bracket, so the replacement parts for the chainstay are the same in all frame sizes.
