There are only two options for Vingegaard: either go to win or not go to the Tour
In a recent interview, Richard Plugge, general manager of Visma-Lease a Bike, talked about the recovery process of Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert, as well as reviewing the current state of the cycling world. The only thing clear is that Vingegaard will not be in the Tour de France if he does not have a physical condition that allows him to compete in the race with the goal of winning.
Richard Plugge reviews the current state of cycling
A juicy interview granted by the general manager of Visma-Lease a Bike to the Relevo website in which he talked about the pros and cons within the current cycling panorama. As expected, when a few days ago we saw Jonas Vingegaard taking his first pedal strokes after the serious fall suffered in the Itzulia, it was his opinion on the evolution of the Danish rider.
"The first concern I had and that we had as a team was to assess whether Jonas could return to being a person with full capabilities," Plugge confessed, indicating that they will have to wait a few more days to see Vingegaard's progress. The plan is clear: if he does not reach the Tour de France at 100%, he will not be in the Tour de France, which, on the other hand, would imply that if he does not make it to the French tour, we would see him competing in the Vuelta in September.

With Wout van Aert, it's a bit of the same, with the difference that the injuries of the Belgian came earlier and with less severity. Here the question will be more about whether the Tour de France fits into the cyclist's objectives, which in this second part of the year include the assault on the road race at the Paris Olympic Games.
Richard Plugge also spoke about the super league project as a way to value the different cycling competitions that take place. According to the Dutch leader, the paradigm of the sport is changing and in this new situation, cycling has a problem "We are 20 years behind in many things."
One of the problems that cycling faces according to Plugge is that of safety in races "We have to protect the health of our athletes and our business," he concluded.
Regarding Visma-Lease a Bike, Plugge confessed that his intention was to turn the team into a kind of globally recognizable brand around the world, as it can happen with some of the leading football teams in the world. However, the dependence on sponsors that historically burden cycling teams makes it difficult for him to fulfill this dream. He even resigns himself to the fact that many will continue to call the Dutch team Jumbo-Visma.
