The first round also held in Araxá left a spectacular start to the season. In the Short Track, Evie Richards (Trek Factory Racing) and Christopher Blevins (Specialized Factory Racing) took the victories after very tactical and close races. In the Olympic discipline (XCO), Samara Maxwell (Decathlon Ford Racing Team) surprised with an authoritative victory, also signing her team's first elite triumph in the World Series. In the men's race, Specialized dominated completely: Victor Koretzky and Blevins escaped from the start and consolidated a historic double, with Chilean Martín Vidaurre completing the podium.
How is the overall classification of the XCO World Cup right now
In the overall classification, the leaders are the same as those who won last Sunday. Victor Koretzky and Samara Maxwell lead their respective categories with 315 points each, and they are already starting to make significant differences against their pursuers.
In the men's category, Koretzky has 315 points, followed by Blevins with 280, Vidaurre with 189, Forster with 183, and Nino Schurter with 175. In the women's category, Maxwell leads with 315 units, ahead of Nicole Koller (240), Alessandra Keller (200), Savilia Blunk (190), and Candice Lill (176).
Favorites to win this second round in Araxá
In the women's category, all eyes will be on Samara Maxwell once again. The New Zealander showed to be in exceptional form and faces this round as the top favorite. However, she will not have it easy: Nicole Koller showed great solidity in both disciplines, while Savilia Blunk and Alessandra Keller also proved to be very close. It will also be interesting to see Evie Richards' response in the XCO after shining in the Short Track.
In the men's race, Victor Koretzky is the main candidate after his total dominance in the first race. Alongside him, Christopher Blevins will seek to fight for victory again after working as a team last week. Martín Vidaurre arrives motivated by his podium, and names like Nino Schurter, Simon Andreassen, and Lars Forster will also be contenders if a more controlled race is given from the chasing group.
With the new route as the protagonist and with many riders seeking revenge or consolidating their good start, the second round of the World Cup promises strong emotions again from Brazil.
