The video of the aggression that has put the peloton of the Giro at risk in stage 6
The sixth stage of the 2026 Giro d'Italia experienced a very tense moment this Thursday during the route towards Naples. With approximately 47 kilometers remaining to the finish line, a group of young people positioned alongside the road staged an extremely dangerous incident by attempting to push and destabilize several riders from the peloton as they passed at high speed.
The peloton avoids a potential multiple crash after a reckless gesture from several young people
The incident occurred during the stage between Paestum and Naples, a 141-kilometer day with barely 500 meters of elevation gain that, on paper, should be resolved in a sprint. However, during one of the urban sections of the route, cameras captured how several young people partially invaded the edge of the roadway and extended their arms towards the peloton with the apparent intention of pushing or even pulling some riders.
Pancani literally furious about this scene. Rightly so, I would say… #giroditalia pic.twitter.com/69dtcdsgiJ

In the images, it is also noticeable how other members of the group recorded the scene with mobile phones while the peloton instinctively reacted to avoid contact. The situation generated moments of real risk, especially considering the speed at which the cyclists were traveling and the density of the group at that point in the race.

Fortunately, no falls occurred, although several riders had to slightly alter their trajectory to avoid the people positioned alongside the road. The incident once again highlighted one of the major safety issues in professional cycling, especially in grand tours where the public can be very close to the riders for kilometers.
The Giro had already experienced similar scenes in other editions, although usually related to road invasions, fans running alongside the cyclists, or attempts to film too close to the peloton. In this case, the images show a much more aggressive and dangerous attitude, with several clear movements towards the riders.
The organization has not yet officially commented on what happened, although the video of the incident has rapidly spread on social media during the course of the stage.
