The UCI will test limiting the development of transmissions in competition to improve safety
A few months ago, some voices began to rise, such as Wout van Aert advocating for reducing speed in races to improve safety. Now, after the latest SafeR meeting, the organization linked to the UCI that seeks to analyze the safety of competitions and propose measures to improve it, they will test the limitation of developments as a means to reduce speed.
SafeR picks up the idea proposed by some cyclists to limit developments to reduce speed
Although it may seem contradictory in the world of cycling, where brands work to achieve faster and more aerodynamic models, cyclists train more conscientiously and meticulously to perform better, or technicians analyze countless data to improve each parameter, a few months ago some cyclists suggested reducing the speed of races as a means to make them safer.
These proposals were picked up by SafeR who, at their latest meeting, proposed to the UCI to establish a trial period to check the impact of a limitation on bike developments.

It has not been decided in which races the tests will be carried out as the UCI simply indicates that it will be done later in the season, which suggests that, like the yellow cards or the tests to eliminate the earpiece that were carried out last year, it is most likely that summer races will be used for this purpose.
In addition to the limitation on development, the SafeR meeting brought other proposals such as requesting to adapt the feeding rules to reduce the risk of falls due to entanglement in the increasingly common roadside feed zones; and a review of the extreme weather protocol to make it more detailed. These proposals have been positively received by the UCI, who, like with the development limitation, will establish a schedule to test these measures and, if successful, incorporate them into their regulations.
