The Thömus maxon team transforms into a road team with its stars Fluckiger, Forster, and teammates
The renowned Swiss mountain bike team Thömus maxon has just announced a revolutionary step in their preparation with the creation of a road cycling team that shares cyclists between the two disciplines. This 2025, the Swiss team cyclists will participate in several UCI Europe Tour events, with the aim of improving their performance and adaptation to MTB races.

Thömus maxon team also becomes a road cycling team
According to Ralph Näf, director of the Thömus maxon team: "As one of the best mountain biking teams in the world, we want to constantly offer our athletes new opportunities for further development. Stimuli through international road races can be an important piece of the puzzle." "Our goal is to prepare our cyclists for the fastest and most tactical MTB races. In particular, in short track races, tactics, positioning, and reading the race correctly often play a crucial role. Riding elbow to elbow is a completely different challenge than in the past, when MTB races were often decided in maximum sprints of two men."

The project will be led by the former Swiss national MTB coach, Bruno Diethelm, currently the sports director of the Thömus Akros Youngstars youth team. His extensive experience and knowledge will be crucial in preparing the riders for the major MTB season goals, especially focusing on the early World Cups.
The project kicked off with the team's first training camp in Croatia, where Mathias Flückiger, Lars Forster, Vital Albin from Thömus maxon, and Romano Püntener, Nicolas Halter, and Loris Hättenschwiler from Thömus Akros Youngstars will be present.
The cyclists have already competed in two races, Umag Trophy and Poreč Trophy, in Croatia last week, and the team led by Mathias Flückiger and Lars Forster is now competing in the Istrian Spring Trophy.

The new Thömus Sliker R3 Ultimate is the road bike they are training and competing with. A lightweight, aerodynamic model with geometry adapted to current trends, which has nothing to fear from its competition.
After the first MTB World Cup races, the team will be seen at the Tour de Berna and the Radsportfest Mäwil race.
