The new DT Swiss DF kit improves suspension performance and reduces pedal kickback
DT Swiss has launched its new Degrees of Freedom (DF) technology, an adjustable and retrocompatible system that integrates into Ratchet DEG hubs to reduce pedal kickback and therefore improve the behavior of the rear suspension. With this innovation, the Swiss company offers a simpler, lighter, and maintenance-free alternative to the solutions that have dominated the market until now.

DT Swiss presents Degrees of Freedom technology: the simplest and lightest anti-pedal kickback system
Pedal kickback is the recoil of the cranks that occurs when the rear suspension compresses after a jump or impact and the chain stretches. This phenomenon reduces the sensitivity of the suspension system, generates resistance in the pedals, and affects both comfort and control in technical sections, especially in gravity disciplines and with e-bikes.

DT Swiss's proposal consists of allowing the core to rotate a few degrees freely before engaging, releasing the suspension from the lock imposed by the transmission. The result is a bike that flows more, with greater absorption capacity and better traction in challenging sections.
Three configurations for MTB and two for eMTB
The DF Upgrade Kit introduces different angles of freedom depending on the discipline:
- 0°: Instant engagement, designed for cross country and technical climbs.
- 10°: Intermediate point that balances pedaling efficiency and suspension freedom, ideal for all-mountain.
- 20°: Maximum freedom for the suspension, recommended for enduro and downhill.
In the case of eMTBs, the brand reduces the offer to two positions (0° and 10°), prioritizing durability over higher torque loads, with 60-tooth Ratchet DEG Hybrid hubs.

Unlike other systems that add complexity to the transmission, DT Swiss's DF is limited to the hub. The installation only requires replacing the DF ring and the two ratchets, keeping the rest of the transmission intact. This allows for easy upgrading of any Ratchet DEG hub without the need for additional components.
Compared to these options, the DF stands out for its lightness, total integration with the Ratchet DEG, and zero maintenance, reinforcing DT Swiss's reputation as a leader in minimalist and reliable technical solutions.

Price and availability
The DF Upgrade Kit is now available on the DT Swiss website and official distributors:
- MTB: three positions (0°, 10°, 20°), 90-tooth ratchets, and a 4° engagement angle.
- eMTB Hybrid: two positions (0° and 10°), 60-tooth ratchets, and a 6° engagement angle.
Both kits include the DF ring, internal and external ratchets, two springs, and 20g of specific grease. They are available with or without a disassembly tool, and their recommended price starts at €129.90.
