The million-dollar rise of the WorldTour pushes Visma to seek a new main sponsor
The Dutch team Visma Lease a Bike has begun the active search for a new main sponsor with the aim of strengthening its budget and continuing to compete at the highest level of the WorldTour in the coming years. This has been confirmed by various internal sources of the team to Dutch media.
Staying in the elite costs more than ever: Visma seeks economic boost
The Norwegian software company Visma will remain linked to the structure but will take a step back in its role as the main financial engine. The company, which has an indefinite contract with the team since January 1, 2024, just like Lease a Bike, will continue to be part of the pool of sponsors, although it will not assume the necessary economic leadership to face the next phase of growth.
The move comes in a context of clear inflation in the budgets of the major teams in the peloton. In the last year, the resources of structures such as UAE Team Emirates XRG, Lidl-Trek, Red Bull BORA-hansgrohe, or Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team have significantly increased, in several cases thanks to the direct entry of their main sponsors into the ownership of the teams.

To stay in the leading group of world cycling, the team led by Richard Plugge considers it essential to increase its budget. This economic leap would logically imply an increase in the value of the main sponsorship.
Plugge has already had conversations with several multinationals interested in taking on that strategic role starting next season.
During the last year, Visma has redefined its sponsorship strategy in the context of a planned IPO in London. This new corporate approach, focused on other marketing and business growth objectives, does not fully align with the sporting ambition of the team, which aims to structurally establish itself among the top five in the WorldTour in the next five-year cycle.
In recent days, moreover, international economic media have pointed out that the company could delay that IPO due to the irregular behavior of the technology sector in the financial markets, which may have affected its valuation.
In any case, the future of the structure is not in immediate risk. The team has the support of major partners such as Visma itself, PON, and Rabobank. However, if it wants to continue fighting for the grand tours and classics with riders of the caliber of Jonas Vingegaard or Wout van Aert, it will need a new economic boost that allows it to compete on equal terms with the current superpowers of the peloton.
