Demi Vollering ready to defend her red jersey. Favorites to win the Women's Vuelta a España 2025
The Women's Vuelta a España is here and it brings a clear favorite, Demi Vollering, who aims to continue reigning in the type of race where she excels. The Dutch cyclist arrives after a discreet spring where she only managed to win the Strade Bianche, raising doubts about her performance as well as that of her new team, FDJ-Suez, in a race where having support is essential, leaving some uncertainty about her chances. Speaking of her teammates, Juliette Labous should also be included as a contender for the general classification, as she has been very present in the previous races.

Another cyclist who had a discreet spring is Kasia Niewiadoma, although in her case, difficulties in winning one-day races are more common. However, the Polish cyclist has always been present in the decisive moments and let's not forget, she is the current winner of the Tour de France, which gives her some credit when aiming for victory in the Women's Vuelta a España.
Of course, there will be anticipation to see how Pauline Ferrand-Prévot performs, as she has shown tremendous form during the spring where she not only won the Paris-Roubaix but also returned to road cycling with the goal of winning the Tour de France in the coming years. Who knows, given what we have seen, if the timelines will not continue to shorten and we will see the best version of the French cyclist in the Women's Vuelta a España.
We must also not forget Mavi García, a consistently strong cyclist in these races who we will surely see in the top positions of the race again, although she will have to show her best form to aim for higher aspirations.
Route of the Women's Vuelta a España 2025
7 stages make up the route of the Women's Vuelta a España 2025 with a varied course that will start with a team time trial of just 8.1 kilometers through the streets of Barcelona. This stage should not create significant differences in the general classification.
It will be followed by a practically flat stage, with a predictable sprint finish, heading to Sant Boi de Llobregat. A similar scenario will be seen in the third stage, which will take the peloton from Barbastro to Huesca, although in this stage, attention should be paid to the weather in case the Cierzo wind decides to make an appearance, as the strong winds that usually hit these areas can affect what seems like a calm stage.
The Women's Vuelta a España will continue through the Aragon region in the fourth stage, which will feature the Moncayo, the most iconic mountain in this community, as the setting for the first approach to the mountains. The climb to the homonymous port and the El Buste port, just 12 kilometers from the finish, should create the first gaps among the favorites.
The Women's Vuelta a España will head towards the Soria region in a second mountainous stage that will tackle the ascent to the Lagunas de Neila twice, the first one called Pasil de Rozavientos as it lacks the extremely tough final kilometer to descend back to the base and immediately start the second ascent. This stage will be decisive and should clarify the general classification significantly, possibly even sealing the final result.
After two demanding stages, the race will take a small break with a flat stage through the Palencia region where the wind could change the dynamics unexpectedly, especially due to the non-linear route of the stage that makes an almost circular loop between Becerril de Campos and Baltanás.
As a dessert, there will be a tough stage in Asturias with a route typical of this region that includes climbs over the Colladona and Colladiella before the final ascent to Cotobello where the final result of this Vuelta will be decided.
