The EF Education-EasyPost team is entering cyclocross, and the rest of the World Tour teams could do the same
Although the multidisciplinary approach is not new for EF Education-EasyPost, the signing of the junior world champion in cyclocross and the change in regulations by the UCI to allow successes in other disciplines to also grant points to road teams have led the American squad to officially register with the UCI as a cyclocross team.

EF Education-EasyPost registers as an official cyclocross team
The publication of the official final list of UCI cyclocross teams for the current 2025-26 season and the appearance of EF Education-EasyPost on it has been quite a surprise. The second road team, after the already established Alpecin-Deceuninck in the mud discipline, aims to create an exclusive structure for this discipline.
This registration aims to allow one of its latest signings, the promising Italian cyclist Mattia Agostinacchio, the current junior world champion in the discipline, to showcase the team's colors from the very beginning. Additionally, this allows part of the UCI points that Agostinacchio earns in the mud to also benefit the World Tour road squad, which is always welcome in an increasingly competitive World Tour category.

EF Education-EasyPost's commitment to other disciplines like gravel is not new, with Lachlan Morton being its best ambassador in recent years. However, the creation of a UCI cyclocross team represents a significant step forward in the team's multidisciplinary approach.
It is also clear that, although the signing of Mattia Agostinacchio is a move towards road cycling, the American team does not intend to deprive him of the specialty in which he has grown, firmly believing that it can be beneficial for his road career, similar to what has happened with cyclists like Wout van Aert or Mathieu van der Poel.

“He still has a lot to prove, but in his youth, he was exceptional in all disciplines. We hope he becomes a very good road cyclist in the classics. But he is still very young, and we believe that cyclocross can help him grow positively as a cyclist. There are many examples where it works,” explained Jonathan Vaughters.
