Carbon, dual suspension, removable 800 Wh battery, and one of the most powerful motors on the market. The new Amflow TL Carbon combines features that until now seemed reserved for high-performance e-MTBs, but it does so with a very different philosophy. A bike designed to navigate the city, ride mountain trails, or embark on a bikepacking adventure, without sacrificing comfort or power. We tested it to discover just how far its versatility goes.

We tested the Amflow TL Carbon: high-end e-MTB technology for any terrain

Normally, in the urban or trekking bike sector, we don't usually see a level of sophistication and design as high as that of this Amflow. To start, it features a frame made entirely of carbon. This offers a 105 mm rear suspension travel with a 4-Bar configuration, with articulation at the rear of the chainstays, ensuring sensitivity and efficiency. Additionally, the shock absorber is a Fox Float, with no experiments involved.

The frame design features smooth, rounded contours that provide a very attractive aesthetic. Its generous sloping stands out, contributing to its versatility.

The Amflow TL Carbon has surprised us: much more than an urban e-bikeThe Amflow TL opts for a battery , so if we remove the protective cover under the down tube, we can access it and easily take it out. However, this requires the key that comes with the bike for that purpose.

This way, we can charge the battery separately, but if preferred, the bike also has its charging port on the seat tube.

The fork is also handled by Fox with its AWL Sport model, which offers 120 mm of travel in the front, ensuring comfort even on rough trails with this Amflow TL.

Aside from the suspensions, the geometry is also very well thought out to achieve maximum comfort. Here, we slightly forget about aggressive geometries for wilder terrains, and what the Amflow TL offers is, above all, comfort.

A clear example of this is its seat tube angle, which at 70º, strays far from the vertical angles that seek to gain efficiency on impossible climbs and places us in a comfortable position. This doesn't mean we won't be able to climb ramps effectively, as we have a very powerful motor that facilitates any task in this regard.

The head tube angle is 66.9º, a very balanced figure that achieves a very successful compromise between maneuverability and stability.

The rest of the measurements follow the line of maximum comfort, with a very high stack that, in addition, combines with a handlebar with a lot of elevation, positioning us very upright.

The Amflow TL is offered in only two sizes, although it comes standard with two stems to choose the one that best suits our preference.

The most suitable equipment for versatility

We have already mentioned the fact of having Fox suspensions, which guarantee optimal performance, instead of resorting to cheaper options that would diminish the filtering capacity of irregularities that the Amflow offers. In the rest of the assembly, we also find very well-thought-out elements.

The most striking feature is its electronic and wireless transmission. However, the derailleur is wired to the bike's battery, so we don't have to worry about another battery. This derailleur is made by TRP for Amflow and, interestingly, it is linked to the wireless control of the Amflow system, so there is no need to install a specific derailleur, greatly simplifying the cockpit.

Amflow itself provides the rest of the 10-speed transmission, with an 11-43 cassette combined with a 38-tooth chainring.

The brakes are Tektro with 4-piston calipers and are also customized for Amflow.

The wheels are also from the brand itself, with a more than correct appearance and a size of 27.5”, which adds versatility to a bike designed, among other uses, to navigate urban environments. However, it should be noted that the bike is compatible with 29” wheels if preferred. On them, well-known and versatile Maxxis Crossmark 2 tires in a width of 2.35” are mounted.

The rest of the components, also branded by Amflow, perform excellently, with special mention to an excellent functioning dropper post with a more than generous travel—150 mm in size S/M and 170 mm in size L/XL—that makes things much easier in any situation.

Even the standard pedals impressed us with their design. They are simple but well-designed, with just the right amount of metal spikes to ensure grip without interfering with comfort and versatility of use.

But in the Amflow TL, we should not only mention the usual assembly of a bike. It also comes with some very interesting standard accessories.

To start, the bike comes with fenders installed as standard. These have sufficient quality and solidity to ensure we won't have problems with flexing and unwanted rubbing.

But if one element has caught our attention, it is undoubtedly the rear rack. It is really well designed, with a robust and solid appearance, as well as being aesthetic. It supports up to 27 kg of weight, but judging by its appearance, it seems to be capable of holding much more in practice.

The bike also includes lights as standard. The front light is wired to the bike's battery and turns on with a long press on the right control. It is very practical and has two intensity modes that illuminate very well. The rear light is not wired and is rechargeable via USB-C.

As a finishing touch, the Amflow TL includes a very solid and practical kickstand, in line with the rest of the bike's design.

Avinox M2 Motor: power without limitations

In many electric bikes in this sector, we see motors with more limited assistance, as in urban or recreational use, a full power motor may not be necessary. But it is clear that the people at Amflow do not think the same and have equipped this Amflow TL with one of the most powerful motors available. It is the Avinox M2, a motor that offers 125 Nm of maximum torque and up to 1,100 W of power. We are talking about numbers that not long ago would have seemed crazy.

The motor is accompanied by a 800 Wh battery, so we won't have limitations in terms of autonomy either. Additionally, we can charge the battery directly on the bike or transport it separately.

But the Amflow ecosystem not only offers high power. We have tested the higher M2S model several times, and its smaller sibling is just a bit more restrained in terms of maximum power, but offers the same configuration and customization options, which are one of the great advantages of this motor.

Whether from its display on the frame or from the app, we can adjust multiple parameters of each assistance mode, allowing us to achieve just the behavior we desire. We can make the motor's response very smooth and predictable or, conversely, obtain an aggressive and radical response.

In addition to this, we can activate very interesting functions like Smoothshift, which allows us to shift without pedaling as long as the bike is in motion. With Smoothshift activated, if we press the shift button, the chainring momentarily rotates to allow the transmission to make the shift. This way, for example, if we are going downhill but see a climb approaching, we can shift to a larger chainring without having to pedal.

Another very interesting function offered by the Avinox system is heart rate control. For this, we just need to link a heart rate monitor—this can be a chest strap, a watch, etc.—and set a target. Once activated, the motor will automatically adjust the assistance to keep us constantly within that chosen heart rate range. We find this function very interesting, which we have already tested on other bikes with Avinox, but in this model, it makes even more sense.

On the road with the Amflow TL

When we received the bike, the first thing that caught our attention was its aesthetics. Bikes in this sector do not always achieve an attractive design, but this is not the case with this Amflow. With a very careful design and smooth, rounded lines, they have created an attractive model in which there is a great integration of all elements, including the rear rack.

The Amflow TL Carbon has surprised us: much more than an urban e-bike

Although weight may not be as influential in this type of bike, we wanted to weigh it, as we usually do. In this case, we weighed it complete, with pedals and all installed elements, and the figure was 26.3 kg. Considering the 800 Wh battery and all installed accessories, including a robust rear rack, we think it's a good weight. After completing the weighing, we set off.

The Amflow TL Carbon has surprised us: much more than an urban e-bike

The first thing to highlight is the position we adopt on the Amflow TL. It is not surprising, as the height of its handlebar is visually noticeable, but we are really upright, in an urban bike position.

We also notice the setback of the seat tube, which positions us behind the bottom bracket. At a time when all bikes seek to place us very forward, this bike shows a significant change. But the truth is that it makes a lot of sense. This is not a bike designed for climbing steep trails or navigating very uneven terrains, so comfort is prioritized above all, and this seat position invites us to a calm and relaxed pedaling. We also don't need our position to be entirely efficient since, as we know, we have a motor that can assist us with almost unlimited support.

The Amflow TL Carbon has surprised us: much more than an urban e-bike

This position on the bike, combined with the assistance capacity of the Amflow, makes us feel really comfortable in an urban environment, without it feeling heavy at all to cover long distances. At the same time, the Amflow boasts good agility to navigate smoothly through traffic.

And, of course, any irregularity in the road poses no problem thanks to the capabilities of the suspensions of this Amflow.

And since we are talking about comfort, the dropper post also plays an important role. It is a component that originated from the need in aggressive terrains, but that does not mean it doesn't make our life much easier even in a calm use. At every stop, we have the option to lower it and comfortably place our feet on the ground.

The Amflow TL Carbon has surprised us: much more than an urban e-bike

But the Amflow TL does not shy away from slightly more adventurous and sporty uses. It is fully capable of MTB routes, where we have a great assistance capacity and plenty of autonomy for any route we can think of, in addition to suspensions that function well. While it is clear that very aggressive scenarios, trails, etc., will not be its preferred terrain, it will perform very well on all types of trails and will offer us a level of comfort that is not found in purely sporty bikes.

The Amflow TL Carbon has surprised us: much more than an urban e-bike

And looking at this rear rack and the front one offered as an option, we can't help but think about what a bikepacking trip would be like with the Amflow TL. Simply put, the bike has everything to spend many hours on it comfortably, with more than enough capacity to navigate a wide range of terrains and, with 800 Wh of battery, an autonomy that allows us to go very far. Additionally, we have the option to increase autonomy with an extender of no less than 480 Wh extra, reaching a total of 1,280 Wh for truly marathon routes.

Conclusion

Perhaps the big question that may arise when we see a bike like this Amflow TL is: who is it for? After some time testing it, some things are clear to us. For urban use, it is a very suitable bike for anyone, as it facilitates any commute and is very comfortable to ride. Perhaps the only downside we see is if it needs to be lifted, as it is still a heavy bike, like any electric one.

The Amflow TL Carbon has surprised us: much more than an urban e-bike

And in our tests on trails and mountain terrains, we have also confirmed that it performs very smoothly and sufficiently, showcasing efficient suspensions and precise, reliable handling. To such an extent that we see it as a really interesting option for any recreational user who regularly rides on trails and, due to the lack of quality bike offerings in this sector, ends up buying a more sporty eBike, which is almost always more expensive and does not offer the comfort or versatility of this Amflow TL Carbon.
