The 2027 Vuelta a España is gaining traction in Pogačar’s plans: “He has unfinished business”
Tadej Pogačar has not yet decided which grand tours he will compete in 2027, but his representative, Alex Carera, believes he is more likely to return to La Vuelta than to participate in the Giro d'Italia. The final decision will be made in December during the UAE Team Emirates-XRG training camp.
Pogačar's agent points to La Vuelta 2027 ahead of the Giro: "He has unfinished business"
Tadej Pogačar's calendar for 2027 continues to take shape, and his agent's latest statements reinforce the possibility that the Slovenian will return to La Vuelta to try to conquer the only grand tour still missing from his palmarès.
In an interview aired on October 29 on the RadioCorsa program of Italian television RAI, Alex Carera acknowledged that the Spanish round has a special significance for his client after what happened this season.
"Tadej clearly has unfinished business with La Vuelta", Carera stated.

The representative was referring to the crash suffered during the eighth stage of La Vuelta 2026, when Pogačar was leading the general classification. That accident forced him to abandon and ended his season, preventing him from fighting for a victory that would have completed his collection of grand tours after winning the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia.
The final decision will come in December
Although preferences seem to lean towards Spain, Carera made it clear that no decision has been made yet. Pogačar will meet in December with the sports directors of UAE Team Emirates-XRG, general director Mauro Gianetti and sports director Joxean Fernández Matxin during the team's training camp in the United Arab Emirates. It will be then that it will be decided which stage races the Slovenian will compete in during 2027.
Carera also commented on the choice between the two grand tours and, while he insisted that it was a personal assessment, he indicated that he sees a return to La Vuelta as more likely than a new participation in the Giro d'Italia.
His words coincide with the statements made recently by Pogačar himself, who placed the Tour, the World Championship, and La Vuelta among his main objectives for 2027, although he acknowledged that he personally would prefer to return to the Giro.
One of the factors will be the calendar. The road World Championship in Haute-Savoie will take place on August 29, while La Vuelta will start on September 4. Only six days separate both dates, which would force Pogačar to chain two of his major objectives with very little recovery time.
For now, La Vuelta seems to have an advantage over the Giro in the Slovenian's plans, but his participation is not confirmed. We will have to wait until December to find out if Pogačar will return to the Spanish roads where he prematurely ended his 2026 season.
