We test the SCOTT Road Comp Reflective: comfort and maximum visibility for a road cycling shoe
Can cycling shoes help the cyclist's safety on the road? Well yes, they can, as shown by these Scott Road Comp Reflective, shoes with a design and finishes that make them a very serious option for the needs of a large number of cyclists that also makes us more visible on the road thanks to its reflective fabric.
Scott Road Comp Reflective: safety at your feet
Road cyclists tend to be very selective when it comes to choosing the equipment that accompanies them on their cycling trips, often making mistakes by choosing products that are too demanding for their capabilities or the style of cycling they practice.
The shoes are one of the critical elements in road cycling, in fact, are one of the points of contact between rider and bike, so it must be perfectly adapted to transfer ideally the force we exert to the pedals but, in turn, ensure optimum comfort to be able to spend many hours on the bike.

One of the recurring problems of many cyclists is foot pain when they accumulate kilometers in a day, with a feeling of overheating that ends in intense pain in the sole of the foot. In many cases, this is a consequence of opting for excessively sporty shoe models, characterized by tremendous stiffness and very tight lines. Shoes that require a perfect fit of the cleat and the position on the bike as well as many kilometers of experience to the cyclist.
Many of these problems would be solved with more permissive shoes like the Scott Road Comp Reflective that we have been using in recent days, a shoe with a design that prioritizes comfort over raw performance that, to tell the truth, is not much less than the top of the range models to which we are accustomed.
The key to the comfort of these Road Comp Reflective is its wide last that prevents the foot from being squeezed inside the shoe, which does not mean that it is loose. Quite the contrary, since on a classic structure with tongue, as opposed to the double flap design so common in current models, a Boa L6 closure ensures optimum tightness, which we can customize by playing with the position of its lower loop. The effect of the cable is supported by a Velcro on the lower part that reinforces the fastening in the toe area.
But also vital to the comfort achieved is the injected nylon and fiberglass sole, much more forgiving on most feet than the carbon racing models. A sole that, despite the material in which it is made, offers a remarkable level of stiffness, 6 points on the scale of 12 points with which Scott classifies the stiffness of its soles and that allows an effective transfer of force but avoiding the discomfort that is usually associated with extreme stiffness as the hours go by.
The outsole shares with the top of the range models the lower ventilation hole that collaborates with the cooling of the foot as well as its upper made of microperforated synthetic polyurethane, to which a mesh fabric area is added in the toe area to further improve ventilation.
An outer lining that also includes another of the main features of these shoes. Under the sober gray tone, very suffered on the other hand to hide the dirt that the shoes accumulate with use, hides a fabric that makes them completely reflective which, added to being an object in motion with the rise and fall of pedaling, makes us highly visible when we pedal early in the morning, late in the afternoon, or even at night and the lights of other vehicles affect them.
We loved the great balance achieved by Scott in these Road Comp Reflective. You have to be a really trained rider to miss a stiffer structure or more foot support and yet the comfort they offer is simply unbeatable. It would certainly be one of our recommendations for those riders who are continually plagued with foot problems when their rides exceed two or three hours. Who hasn't seen long-distance riders during the summer looking for a stream or spring on the side of the road to get their feet in and ease their discomfort?
Due to the peculiar reflective material, these shoes are only available in the gray color you see in the photos and a range of sizes between 40 and 48. By the way, also note that Scott has achieved a very interesting weight in these shoes that will also be a factor to add when pedaling for many hours with them.
