Specialized launches the Cotton TLR, its most advanced cotton tire
Specialized expands its road range with the launch of the new Cotton TLR, a tire focused squarely on competition and maximum performance. The California brand recaptures the essence of its historic cotton tires but adapts them definitively to the current demands of modern tubeless, with a construction of 320 TPI and a dual Gripton T2/T5 compound.
Specialized takes its legendary Cotton to the next level with the new Cotton TLR
Cotton has historically been synonymous with a fine feel and quality ride. In this case, Specialized opts for a hybrid Poly-Cotton Corespun casing with 320 threads per inch, which combines a polyester core with outer cotton fibers. The goal is to combine elasticity and structural strength with a more lively and direct riding sensation on the asphalt.
As Oli Kiesel, the brand's Product Manager, explains, “the polyester core accelerates the tire. The cotton fibers make it feel alive”. This duality is the technical foundation of a model that seeks to offer lower rolling resistance without sacrificing cornering control.

The new Cotton TLR is prepared for tubeless use and is manufactured under ISO standards to facilitate a hermetic tubeless installation, with tight tolerances in the bead and compatibility with hookless rims within current standards. The brand indicates that it can usually be mounted without tire levers, although dismounting may require them due to the tight fit of the bead.
The tire uses the well-known dual Gripton T2/T5 compound. The T2 is located in the center tread to reduce rolling resistance and optimize efficiency in a straight line, while the T5 is reserved for the sides, enhancing grip and safety in hard cornering.

Specialized claims that the Cotton TLR stands as a reference in terms of speed compared to other tires present in the WorldTour, relying on a combination of advanced rubber chemistry and modernized manufacturing.
The focus of this tire is clearly racing-oriented and is aimed at competitive and athletic cyclists who prioritize speed, grip, and ride quality. Those looking for a tire with high annual durability or maximum puncture protection may find other options in the brand's catalog.

Sizes, weights, and price of the Specialized Cotton TLR range
The new Specialized Cotton TLR will be available in three sizes:
- 700x28c – 280 g
- 700x30c – 290 g
- 700x32c – 320 g
All share a 320 TPI Poly-Cotton Corespun casing and Gripton T2/T5 compound, and their price is 99 € per unit.
Regarding compatibility, the brand positions them especially alongside Roval Rapide, Sprint, and Alpinist wheels, although they are usable in any tubeless system compatible with current standards.
