The BC Bike Race was one of those events that Schurter had wanted to compete in for years, but he could hardly fit it in while the World Cup practically dictated his entire calendar.

As we reported after the race, the Swiss rider ended up winning the BC Bike Race 2026 in his first participation, after seven days of competition on some of the most famous singletracks in British Columbia.

But the result is just one part of what “Seven Days Beyond the World Cup” now shows. Schurter traveled to Canada alongside Thomas Frischknecht, and both faced the challenge without mechanics or team assistance, taking care of everything themselves during the week. An experience that, according to SCOTT, allowed them to somewhat regain the competitive spirit of Nino's early years.

A different way to understand success

After more than two decades in the elite, Schurter now has the freedom to seek different races and experiences, and his time in Canada also served to reflect on what he expects from this new phase.

“I think what I have had to learn is that success is not just the result. It’s when you have enjoyed it and had fun. That is true success.”
